RoK President Lee Jae Myung to pay state visit to Vietnam

At the invitation of the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam and his spouse, President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung and his spouse will make a state visit to Vietnam from April 21-24.
This marks President Lee Jae Myung's first visit to Vietnam. The visit signifies that President Lee Jae Myung is the first foreign Head of State to visit Vietnam after the 16th National Assembly consolidated the state apparatus, including the election of General Secretary To Lam as President.
Vietnam and RoK currently maintain strong relations across all channels of the Party, Government, and National Assembly. High-level exchanges continue to be maintained through various flexible forms, thereby continuously strengthening political trust. In December 2022, the two countries established a comprehensive strategic partnership framework.
In August last year, in his capacity as General Secretary, General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse made a state visit to Republic of Korea, thereby comprehensively enhancing and deepening the Vietnam-Republic of Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The political relationship between the two countries is developing well, with trust being increasingly solidified through high-level visits and interactions at various levels.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, all RoK Presidents have visited Vietnam at least once during their tenure.
Republic of Korea is currently Vietnam's number one investment partner, ranks third among the largest trade partners, and is the second-largest provider of ODA to Vietnam.
In 2025, the bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and Republic of Korea reached USD 89.5 billion, an increase of 9.6% compared to 2024.
In the first three months of 2026, the total import-export turnover between Vietnam and South Korea reached USD 26.9 billion, a 30% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Of this, Vietnam's exports to South Korea reached USD 8.1 billion, up 20.4%.
The upcoming visit of President Lee Jae Myung is expected to further solidify political trust between the two sides. It will also promote economic, trade, investment, science and technology cooperation, and development cooperation to a new level in line with bilateral needs and interests.
