Governor Ricardo Heriberto Díaz Cortés particularly emphasized the region's strengths in mining industries, with the world's largest copper mines such as Chuquicamata and Escondida, along with the potential for lithium. The Governor proposed studying the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Antofagasta and a locality in Vietnam.

Antofagasta is an important economic hub of Chile, with strengths in mining industries, renewable energy, and tourism. The region boasts unique natural landscapes such as the Atacama Desert, the Moon Valley, and a system of world-leading astronomical observatories.

In terms of education, Antofagasta is home to reputable universities such as the University of Antofagasta and the Universidad Católica del Norte, specializing in engineering and environmental sciences.

This working visit marks the first step for both sides to explore the potential for fostering cooperation in the fields of economy, technology, and trade. The Vietnamese Embassy in Chile will continue to coordinate with the government and businesses in Antofagasta to implement specific cooperation initiatives in the near future, Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong affirmed.
