WVR/VNA - On July 31, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New Delhi , as part of his ongoing state visit to India.

Minister Jaishankar extended a warm welcome to Prime Minister Chinh, one of the first foreign leaders to make a state visit to India since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's re-election for a third term. He affirmed that the Indian Government attaches importance to this visit and believes it will provide a strong impetus for Vietnam-India ties in the near future.

Prime Minister Chinh praised the successful co-chairing of the 18th Vietnam-India Joint Commission meeting by the two Foreign Ministers in September 2023, highlighting it as a crucial preparation for his visit, He also underscored ongoing efforts to finalise the Action Plan for the Vietnam-India comprehensive strategic partnership for 2024-2028, which includes many new initiatives.

He hoped that his visit would usher in a new era of Vietnam-India relations, marked by increased trust, deeper understanding and greater effectiveness, meeting the aspirations of leaders and people of both nations.

The Vietnamese leader wished to discuss key cooperation areas with India, including promoting the exchange of all-level delegations, locality-to-locality and people-to-people exchanges; boosting economic, trade, and investment ties to elevate two-way trade to 20 billion USD; and expanding collaboration into emerging areas such as green transition, digital transformation, innovation, semiconductor technology, and artificial intelligence.

He urged both Foreign Ministries to work closely with relevant ministries and agencies to review and carry out high-level agreements effectively.

In reply, Minister Jaishankar vowed to cooperate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to further enhance Vietnam-India relations in the coming time.

Both sides agreed to continue joint work at global and regional forums and supported ASEAN's stance on the East Sea issue.
