Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi aims to serve about 100 million passengers and five million tonnes of freight per year by 2050, due to a current notice from the Government Office.

“Without proper planning and investment expansion, the current airport risks not satisfying the burgeoning demand, causing overload. It, therefore, proves necessary to early invest in an expansion to fetch the market growth demands,” said Thanh.

He also added that as Noi Bai International Airport is the gateway to the capital, thus its scale must be magnificent and modern, contributing to enhancing Vietnam’s status and leaving sustainable beautiful work for later generations.

All relevant management agencies agreed to the proposed plan in which the airport would have a scale of serving about 100 million passengers and five million tonnes of freight per year, going compatible with the national airport master plan in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision towards 2025 which was greenlit by the Appraisal Council.

“Developer ACV needs to scale up efforts for investment preparation and submit investment proposals to competent agencies for approval. All efforts gear towards kicking off an airport expansion by 2025,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.

According to Dinh Viet Thang, General Director of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam, French consultant ADPi was selected to work on Noi Bai International Airport’s plan, which already began working on the plan in 2019 and has been circulated for comments from different management agencies and Hanoi People’s Committee.

As of now, Noi Bai accommodates two passenger terminals with a combined capacity of 25 million passengers, as well as a freight terminal with a capacity of 403,000 tonnes per year.

The Ministry of Transport has received feedback from seven out of nine Ministries and from Hanoi People’s Committee, which shows that Hanoi leaders agreed to the above scenario.

As of now, Noi Bai accommodates two passenger terminals with a combined capacity of serving 25 million passengers, the freight terminal has a capacity of 403,000 tonnes per year.

In light of the plan for 2030, Noi Bai would accommodate three runway lines and three passenger terminals. The existing Terminal T2 shall be expanded so that both terminals could serve 30 million passengers per year. A new passenger Terminal T3 would be built in the southern part. By 2050, the airport would accommodate four runway lines and four passenger terminals.
