On September 1, at the Central Party Headquarters, immediately following talks, under the witness of General Secretary Tô Lâm and First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, along with high-level delegations from both Cuba and Vietnam, Mr Do Van Chien, Politburo Member, Central Party Secretary, Party Secretary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Central Organizations, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), on behalf of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam, handed over the first phase amount of 385 billion VND to support the Cuban people.
The first phase support was delivered directly to the Cuban people after 20 days of fundraising to promptly address urgent needs in healthcare and food, helping them overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.
The support was delivered ahead of the National Day on September 2 as part of the effort by the Program to Support the Cuban People, led by the Vietnam Red Cross Society in coordination with various agencies and ministries, under the guidance of the Party, State, and Central Committee of the VFF.
Previously, immediately following the national launch ceremony on August 13, 2025, in Hanoi, the Program to Support the Cuban People "65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Solidarity" quickly garnered widespread support from all walks of life. Through online fundraising channels, the program achieved its goal of raising at least 65 billion VND in just 30 hours.
In the following week, nearly 2 million hearts reached out to Cuba through each donation and specific supportive activities at the local level, extending the powerful ripple effect. Many provinces, cities, armed forces, bilateral friendship associations, major enterprises, social-professional organizations, cultural and educational units, and a large number of overseas Vietnamese joined in, demonstrating community responsibility and a special bond with the Cuban people, further affirming Vietnam's humanitarian, loyal, and responsible image in the international community.
Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, emphasized: "Every contribution from the Vietnamese people today is a message of love and responsibility. We are together writing new golden pages in the special Vietnam-Cuba solidarity, leaving a legacy for future generations."
As of August 31, 2025, the total amount raised in the first phase has reached nearly 385 billion VND. This figure is a clear testament to the power of unity and widespread solidarity within society. This is just the initial result. The program will continue to be widely implemented until October 16, 2025, mobilizing practical resources to support the Cuban people in overcoming challenges in living conditions, healthcare, education, and sustainable development.
In the coming time, the program's organizing committee will continue to intensify propaganda and mobilization activities throughout society. Diverse, transparent, and convenient forms of support will be implemented, allowing every citizen, organization, and enterprise to join hands.
The year 2025 marks 65 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba (1960 – 2025). Throughout this journey, the two nations have always stood side by side, sharing joys and hardships.
The program "65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Solidarity" is an opportunity for the Vietnamese people to express their appreciation and loyalty to the Cuban people; it is also a chance to further strengthen traditional friendship, contributing to peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.
