National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man to pay official visit to Republic of Korea and Mongolia

At the invitation of Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Cho Jeong-sik and his spouse, and Mongolian Parliament Chairman Sandag Byambatsogt and his spouse, Vietnam's National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man and his spouse, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, will officially visit South Korea and Mongolia from September 6-11.
Vietnam and Republic of Korea established diplomatic relations in 1992 and upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022.
The relationship between the legislative bodies has developed robustly and substantively, achieving many new milestones. In November 2025, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National Assembly of Republic of Korea.
The two sides regularly hold discussions, exchange delegations, share experiences, and cooperate closely, supporting each other at multilateral parliamentary forums.
Republic of Korea is currently Vietnam's second-largest investment partner, second-largest tourist source market, second-largest ODA provider, third-largest trade partner, and third-largest labor market.
Bilateral trade between Vietnam and RoK reached USD 89.5 billion in 2025, an increase of 9.6% compared to 2024. In the first seven months of 2026, total import-export turnover reached USD 70 billion, up 41% compared to the same period in 2025.
Scientific and technological cooperation has been identified as a pillar and a new highlight in bilateral relations. The two countries agreed to promote emerging fields such as AI, biotechnology, quantum technology, semiconductors, and more.
By the end of 2025, approximately 352,000 Vietnamese people were living in RoK. The descendants of the Hwasan Lee and Jeongseon Lee clans number around 1,000 people. Conversely, about 200,000 Koreans are living and doing business in Vietnam.
As for Mongolia, Vietnam is a leading comprehensive partner in Southeast Asia. The parliaments of the two countries maintain delegation exchanges, contacts, and agree to strengthen cooperation between the two legislative bodies, supporting each other at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums.
The two sides have significant potential for cooperation in economic and trade sectors, with many positive developments in recent years.
In 2025, bilateral trade turnover exceeded USD 155 million. Several Vietnamese enterprises have been implementing large-scale investment projects in the energy sector.
The Vietnamese community in Mongolia numbers nearly 1,000 people, primarily investing or operating in the automotive painting and repair, trade, and tourism service sectors.
Notably, Vietnam has become one of the top five favorite destinations for Mongolian citizens in recent years.
Tourism is a potential cooperation field, and the two sides have signed a visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic, official, and ordinary passports in 2023.
