National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on September 14 hosted a reception for Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto, who is on a working visit to Vietnam from September 13-14.
Host and guest agreed that the two countries should enhance cooperation in defence-security and in prevention and control of trans-national crime so as to to protect their citizens and territorial integrity. They also agreed to coordinate to prevent illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
The two leaders reiterated the importance of peace, stability, safety and security as well as freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea. They underlined the significance of solidarity, common stance and outcomes of ASEAN in the East Sea issue, and the promotion of negotiations on a subtantive and effective Code of Conduct (COC) in the waters in accordance with international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).
