At the invitation of Vietnamese National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man and his spouse, Lao National Assembly President Sonexay Siphandone and his spouse will pay an official visit to Vietnam from November 2 to 5, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This is Sonexay Siphandone’s first visit to Vietnam in his capacity as President of the Lao National Assembly. Earlier in October, the Lao National Assembly elected him as President of the 10th National Assembly.
The visit takes place against the backdrop of continuously strengthened and sustainably developing political and diplomatic relations between the two countries, with leaders of both sides regularly engaging in meetings and reciprocal visits.
Cooperation between the two National Assemblies has consistently received attention and been nurtured by successive generations of parliamentary leaders. The two sides regularly exchange experience and support each other in drafting the Constitution and legal system, streamlining the organizational structures, functions and duties of National Assembly committees, and training experts and professional staff.
In 2025, the two National Assemblies jointly compiled and published a book entitled 50 Years of Relations between the National Assemblies of Vietnam and Laos – Comprehensive Cooperation and Development to mark major anniversaries in the two countries' relations. The online launch ceremony was held in Vientiane, Laos, on December 2, 2025, as part of the State visit to Laos by General Secretary To Lam and his spouse.
