JICA provides Viet Nam with cold storage equipment for COVID-19 vaccination campain
The 1,600 cold boxes for COVID-19 vaccination costs 100-million-JPY (around 20 billion VND) are under procurement in collaboration with UNICEF Viet Nam and will be delivered in coming September.

In response to the request by the National Institute of Health and Epidemiology (NIHE), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has decided to provide 1,600 cold boxes and temperature monitoring devices used for vaccine transportation as emergency support to Viet Nam’s nationwide vaccination campaign to fight COVID-19.
The 100-million-JPY (around 20 billion VND) support package is under procurement in collaboration with UNICEF Viet Nam and will be delivered in coming September. The cold storage box keeping vaccines at 2-8°C attached with a temperature monitoring device will help to ensure the vaccine quality during transportation from central storage to vaccination spots in many provinces.
On July 8, the Ministry of Health issued the Decision 3355/QD-BYT approving the nation-wide "COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign 2021-2022". This largest-ever vaccination campaign is scheduled to take place from July 2021 to April 2022 with 19,000 vaccination spots nationwide.
In July, JICA will be also launching cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the Project of "Border Control to Prevent The Spread of Infection from Borders and Strengthen the Epidemic Control System".
In fact, a number of coronavirus-infected illegal immigrants have contributed to community COVID-19 outbreaks in the country. In the project implemented in the border provinces with Cambodia and Laos, JICA will support to strengthen the capacity of government employees in investigating and monitoring infectious diseases, provide personal protective equipment and disinfection equipment of hands necessary for border control. The support is valued at 20 million Yen (roughly 4 billion VND).
JICA will continue to work with the Japanese Government to support Viet Nam in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.
