The ceremony was held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations in cooperation with Vietnam-Iran Friendship Association and the Iranian Embassy in Vietnam in Hanoi on August 4, 2023.
To participate in the ceremony there were also President of Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Nguyen Phuong Nga, Vice Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of Vietnam Le Anh Tuan, President of Vietnam-Iran Friendship Association Excellency Nguyen Van Pha, Iranian Ambassador to Vietnam Ali Akbar Nazari as well as Ambassadors and members of the Diplomatic Corps.
In his speech, President of Vietnam-Iran Friendship Association Excellency Nguyen Van Pha said that the people of Vietnam and Iran have a long-standing friendly relationship. The relationship between Vietnam and Iran became stronger when the two countries officially established diplomatic relations on August 4, 1973.
Only two days after the victory of the Islamic revolution, on February 13, 1979, Vietnam sent a congratulatory telegram to recognize the Islamic Republic of Iran. In 1991, Iran opened its Embassy in Hanoi; in 1997, Vietnam opened its Embassy in Tehran.

"Fifty years is not a long time in a thousand years of cultural and people exchange between our two nations, but through the passage of time, the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Iran has yielded many significant achievements with the consolidation of political and diplomatic relations, the enhancement of multifaceted cooperation and the expansion of people-to-people exchanges...", he said.
Positive developments in all channels of cooperation
On behalf of the Government and people of Viet Nam, Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc extended the best wishes to the leaders and people of Iran.
He said that Iran - the mysterious land of Persia with its long-standing civilization and unique culture, has been dear to the hearts of many Vietnamese people.
Thousands of years ago, the Sasanian merchants overcoming thunders and storms brought Persian products and culture to Viet Nam. Many unique Iranian poems have been translated into Vietnamese, bringing endless source of inspiration to many Vietnamese poets and writers. Many scientific discoveries from Iran related to the irrigation system in agriculture, the windmill system, and the air-conditioning system have contributed to the convenience of our life today.

The beautiful stories in the Arabian Nights have accompanied many generations of Vietnamese children in their nightly dreams, nurturing their imagination of the mysterious Persia, the courage and the triumph of the good before the evil.
Today, Isfahan, the resting place of Alexandre de Rhodes - the creator of the Romanized script of the modern Vietnamese language, is considered one of the symbols of the cultural connection between our two peoples, and a destination many Vietnamese tourists wish to visit when coming to Iran.
"These age-old cultural interaction and the exchanges in the past 50 years have laid important foundations for the current development of the bilateral relationship between the two countries. Sharing many similarities and complementary advantages, Viet Nam and Iran are in good positions to develop our friendship and cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples as well as for peace and stability in the two regions and around the world", the Deputy FM said.
According to the Deputy Foreign Minister, the political and diplomatic relations between the two countries have witnessed positive developments in all channels including State diplomacy, Parliamentary diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy. Bilateral economic and trade cooperation has also been continuously promoted and achieved encouraging results.

In addition, the cooperation between the two countries in other fields such as culture, education, science and technology has witnessed positive signals. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government and people of Vietnam were still happy and ready to share its meager resources ith other countries, including Iran.
“These realistic activities serve as bricks that help build a solid foundation for the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries”, the Deputy FM added and called for greater efforts from the two governments, authorities and agencies to implement effectively and substantively our commitments, bringing cooperation between the two countries into depth.
Iranian Ambassador to Vietnam Ali Akbar Nazari said this is an opportune moment to reflect upon the remarkable journey of friendship and bilateral cooperation as this significant milestone represents half a century of unwavering friendship, fruitful cooperation and shared accomplishments between the two countries.

He said that during the past 50 years, Iran and Vietnam have forged a strong and multifaceted relationship, characterized by three components of mutual respect, development of bilateral relations in the political, economic, and cultural fields, and reciprocal constructive cooperation in multilateralism.
The economies of Iran and Vietnam are complementary to each other, he noted and added that Vietnam needs energy and petrochemical products more than ever while Iran is one of the largest exporters of petroleum and petrochemical products with competitive price, this can create opportunity for further cooperation. In the field of agriculture, while Vietnam can supply coffee, tea and spices to the Iranian market, Iran can also export to the Vietnamese market agricultural products such as apples, kiwi, cherry, etc.
"There remains great potential for our bilateral cooperation in economics, trade, investment, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. In the coming time, both countries should step up trade and investment promotion activities, strengthen business connectivity and push for the early negotiations and signing of a Preferential Trade Agreement", he said.

On this occasion, a book on the 50 years of relations between Iran and Vietnam was also published in Iran with introductory remarks of Ambassador of Iran in Hanoi an the Ambassador of Vietnam in Iran.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Iran is organizing diplomatic and cultural activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Among those, Viet Nam Culture Week in Iran will commence on the 9th of August.
