Thousands of years ago, the Sasanian merchants overcoming thunders and storms brought Persian products and culture to Viet Nam. The beautiful stories in the Arabian Nights have accompanied many generations of Vietnamese children in their nightly dreams, nurturing their imagination of the mysterious Persia, the courage and the triumph of the good before the evil.

Today, Isfahan, the resting place of Alexandre de Rhodes - the creator of the Romanized script of the modern Vietnamese language, is considered one of the symbols of the cultural connection between our two peoples, and a destination many Vietnamese tourists wish to visit when coming to Iran.

"These age-old cultural interaction and the exchanges in the past 50 years have laid important foundations for the current development of the bilateral relationship between the two countries. Sharing many similarities and complementary advantages, Viet Nam and Iran are in good positions to develop our friendship and cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples as well as for peace and stability in the two regions and around the world", the Deputy FM said.

According to the Deputy Foreign Minister, the political and diplomatic relations between the two countries have witnessed positive developments in all channels including State diplomacy, Parliamentary diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy. In addition, the cooperation between the two countries in other fields such as culture, education, science and technology has witnessed positive signals. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government and people of Vietnam were still happy and ready to share its meager resources ith other countries, including Iran.

“These realistic activities serve as bricks that help build a solid foundation for the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries”, the Deputy FM added and called for greater efforts from the two governments, authorities and agencies to implement effectively and substantively our commitments, bringing cooperation between the two countries into depth.

He said that during the past 50 years, Iran and Vietnam have forged a strong and multifaceted relationship, characterized by three components of mutual respect, development of bilateral relations in the political, economic, and cultural fields, and reciprocal constructive cooperation in multilateralism.

The economies of Iran and Vietnam are complementary to each other, he noted and added that Vietnam needs energy and petrochemical products more than ever while Iran is one of the largest exporters of petroleum and petrochemical products with competitive price, this can create opportunity for further cooperation. In the field of agriculture, while Vietnam can supply coffee, tea and spices to the Iranian market, Iran can also export to the Vietnamese market agricultural products such as apples, kiwi, cherry, etc.

"There remains great potential for our bilateral cooperation in economics, trade, investment, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. In the coming time, both countries should step up trade and investment promotion activities, strengthen business connectivity and push for the early negotiations and signing of a Preferential Trade Agreement", he said.
