Indian and Vietnamese localities to explore new trade and investment cooperation oppotunities

A webinar on exploring trade and investment opportunities between Haryana (India) and Nghe An (Viet Nam) were co-organized by the Embassy of India, the Consulate General of India in collaboration with the State Government of Haryana (India), People’s Committee of Nghe An Province on March 30.

The event saw the presence of more than 70 attendees from India and Viet Nam.

In the keynote address, Indian Ambassador Pranay Verma underscored that the engagements between states of India and provinces in Viet Nam are one of the key drivers of India-Viet Nam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and people-to-people contacts.

The ambassador referred to the meeting with Mr. Thai Thanh Quy, Party Secretary of Nghe An during his visit to Nghe An in October 2020, during which both sides discussed measures to enhance cooperation between India and Nghe An.

After the visit, the Embassy of India has successfully implemented two Quick Impact Projects in districs of Yen Thanh and Nam Dan. The webinar between Haryana state and Nghe An province was also the follow up on that discussion.

The ambassador highlighted that both Haryana and Nghe An are the two frontline provinces in the economic development of India and Viet Nam.

Both are strategically located and offer opportunities for mutual learning. While Nghe An is strong in agriculture, textiles, chemicals, wood processing, Haryana State is strong in food processing, automotive, ICT, petrochemicals.

Both sides may explore the possibility of cooperation in the areas of mutual interest, including urban development, start-up, digital transformation, etc. The ambassador expressed hope that the webinar would pave the way for cooperation between the two localities.

Mr. Yogendra Chaudhary, Principle Secretary of Government of Haryana said that India and Viet Nam shared an age-old civilizational linkage. Both countries have exceptional cordial political relations and common views of the world.

The Principal Secretary introduced the state of Haryana which has made an impressive stride for the state with the highest per capita income in India. He hoped that the webinar would open new ties between the two localities.

In his remarks, H.E. Le Ngoc Hoa, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Nghe An said that Nghe An has emerged to be an attractive destination for foreign investors thanks to efforts to improve the ease of doing business.

Nghe An has become the manufacturing hub for many leading international companies and will focus on green development with priorities for development of infrastructures including connectivity and industrial parks, development of human resources and attraction of high-tech FDI.

Areas which are the priority for investment attraction include electronic manufacturing, ICT, engineering, digital economy, renewable energy, biotechnology and supporting industries.

The webinar was followed with presentations by representatives of the two side's local related offices, agencies and companies.

On this occasion, Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City highlighted the importance of interaction between provinces of Viet Nam and states in India.

He requested the Government of Haryana to coordinate with the Consulate General of India to have more interactive sessions with provinces in the South of Viet Nam.
