The scholarships are provided through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) for various programs, including the Atal Bihari Vajpayee General Scholarship Scheme (GSS), the Mekong–Ganga Cooperation (MGC) Scholarship, the Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Cultural Exchange Scholarship, and the Government of India’s Lata Mangeshkar Scholarship for Dance and Music.

Recipients include officials from government agencies, lecturers from educational institutions, Buddhist scholars, and students from across the country.

Of the 78 scholarships, 38 are for PhD programs, 24 for Master’s programs, and 16 for Bachelor’s programs. Successful candidates will study at prestigious universities such as the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, Delhi University, Nalanda University, Banaras Hindu University, Mumbai University, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Andhra University, Gujarat University, Kerala University, Lucknow University, and Dibrugarh University, among others.

Fields of study are diverse, ranging from Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Commerce, International Relations, and Public Policy Management to specialized areas such as Buddhist Studies, Philosophy, Psychology, Archaeology, Ancient Indian History, Performing Arts, Indian Art and Culture, and the Pali language.

The scholarships cover all study-related expenses, including tuition fees, round-trip airfare, visas, living allowances, and facilities at the host institutions.

This scholarship program reflects the Government of India’s long-term commitment to developing high-quality human resources for Vietnam, while deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

It is estimated that at least 1,000 Vietnamese alumni who previously received scholarships from the Government of India now hold important positions in government agencies, enterprises, universities, organizations, or start-ups across the country.

In addition to long-term programs, India also provides around 130 short-term training scholarships annually to Vietnamese citizens through courses under the ITEC program (www.itecgoi.in). More than 5,000 Vietnamese have participated in these programs over the past decades.
