Hai Phong presents 1.6 billion VND to winners of International Mathematical Olympiad

Two Hai Phong students who won medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) and their teachers, were rewarded with more than 1.6 billion VND (67,700 USD) by the Hai Phong authorities.

On July 13, the city authorities held a ceremony to honour the group of students and teachers, after they returned to Hai Phong from Chiba, Japan.

Addressing the ceremony, Secretary of Hai Phong City Party Committee Le Tien Chau praised students and teachers for their achievement, noting that more attention will be paid to improving education quality throughout the city.

Nguyen An Thinh, a 12th grader from Hai Phong’s Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, won a gold medal and Nguyen Dinh Kien, an 11th grader also from the same school, won a silver medal at the 64th IMO, held in Chiba.

This year, Vietnam’s IMO team includes six members, seizing two gold, two silver and two bronze medals, ranked 6th out of more than 110 countries and territories.
