Foreign Ministry deputy spokesperson Doan Khac Viet made the statement at the Foreign Ministry’s regular press briefing on May 28 in reply to reporters’ queries regarding information on the exchange and settlement of alleged bribery at Tenma Vietnam, a Japanese firm in the northern province Bac Ninh.
"As soon as getting information from the Japanese side, the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan informed relevant agencies about the incident. Currently Vietnamese competent agencies are verifying and dealing with information according to the law,” the official said.
According to Asahi Shimbun, the Tokyo-based Tenma Corporation confessed to the Tokyo District Prosecutor that Tenma Vietnam gave a bribe of 25 million Japanese Yen (US$232,000) to Vietnamese customs officials.
Tenma Vietnam, a Japanese plastic firm, a subsidiary of the Tenma parent company in Tokyo, has been in operation at Que Vo industrial park in Bac Ninh province since 2007.
