At the First Session, the 16th National Assembly will review and finalize the personnel for key state positions, including: the President, the Prime Minister, the National Assembly Chairman, Vice Chairpersons of the National Assembly, Deputy Prime Ministers, government members, members of the National Assembly Standing Committee, the Ethnic Council, and other committees of the National Assembly.

Reviewing and finalizing Personnel for key state positions

On the morning of March 26, at the National Assembly House, Politburo Member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man presided over a meeting on preparations for the First Session of the 16th National Assembly.

In his opening remarks, the National Assembly Chairman emphasized the special significance of the first session of the 16th National Assembly, following the success of the 14th National Party Congress; the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term; and the success of the 2nd Plenum of the 14th Party Central Committee.

This session will review and finalize the personnel for key state positions, including: the President, the Prime Minister, the National Assembly Chairman, Vice Chairpersons of the National Assembly, Deputy Prime Ministers, Government members, members of the National Assembly Standing Committee, the Ethnic Council, and other committees of the National Assembly.

The National Assembly Chairman shared that in localities, provinces, and cities are actively preparing to organize the first session of the provincial People's Council, aiming to complete it before March 31, 2026.

Some localities will organize after the First Session of the National Assembly due to personnel matters related to the Central Government.

Approval of the Resolution confirming the status of 16th National Assembly deputies

The National Election Council has announced the list of 500 elected National Assembly deputies. It is expected that on March 27, the National Election Council will officially approve the resolution confirming the status of the 500 elected deputies of the 16th National Assembly.

The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that after the election, central and local agencies have reviewed all related petitions to ensure compliance before announcing the official results.

To date, coordination among related agencies has been largely completed, meeting the conditions to confirm the status of the 500 National Assembly deputies.

The National Assembly Office and the Committee for Deputies' Affairs are continuing to complete the necessary procedures, ensuring the overall progress of the session.

Additionally, the National Assembly Chairman commended the Committee for Deputies' Affairs for organizing training for newly elected deputies. This is a meaningful activity, not only for first-time deputies but also for re-elected ones.

The training content focuses on equipping about 70% of new deputies at the central and local levels with knowledge to grasp regulations, operating principles, skills in using equipment, working procedures at the Dien Hong Hall, and how to participate in sessions.

According to the plan, there are only about 10 days left before the preparatory meeting, prior to the official opening of the session. The National Assembly Chairman stated that during this time, agencies will continue to comprehensively review completed tasks, ongoing activities, and unresolved issues to promptly report and seek opinions from the National Assembly leadership and the Standing Committee.

If the preparation work meets the requirements, subsequent meetings will be organized to continue refining, ensuring that the First Session of the 16th National Assembly proceeds according to plan, with quality and efficiency.

First session scheduled to open on the Morning of April 6, and close on April 24, 2026

Reporting at the meeting, National Assembly Secretary-General and Head of the National Assembly Office Le Quang Manh stated that the First Session of the National Assembly will review and decide on: organizational structure and personnel; 09 legislative projects, legal normative resolutions; 05 groups of content on socio-economics, finance, budget, supervision, and other important issues; and 09 groups of content for deputies to study.

The total working time of the National Assembly is expected to be 11 days, opening on the morning of April 6, 2026, and closing on April 24, 2026.

Currently, all legislative content scheduled in the program of the session has been reviewed and commented on by the National Assembly Standing Committee in meetings from early March 2026 to date.

Regarding socio-economic, financial, budgetary, supervisory, and other important issues, they are expected to be reviewed and commented on by the National Assembly Standing Committee at the 56th Session.
