Themed “Asia’s Challenge in a Turbulent World”, this year’s event marked three decades since its establishment, solidifying its role as Asia’s premier platform for policy dialogues.
Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Dung said despite unprecedented and complicated challenges facing the world, Asia has continued to maintain its role as a dynamic and stable driver of global economic growth, a cradle of human civilisation, and a burgeoning hub for dynamic industrial and production networks.
To propel Asia toward breakthrough advancements, Deputy Prime Minister Dung proposed renewing multilateral cooperation mechanisms and strengthening a win-win global trade system; pioneering scientific and technological development, innovation and digital transformation; promoting inclusive development with a people-centred approach, recognising people as the goal, the driver, and the core of all policies; creating new economic models, particularly in green transition and digital transformation; and enhancing solidarity, cooperation, and mutual respect.
He called on all countries to join hands in writing a new chapter of Asia’s miraculous growth story, and overcoming challenges for global and regional peace, cooperation, and prosperity.
Vietnam is determined to develop rapidly and sustainably with a new mindset, vision, and approach, he said, highlighting the acceleration of three strategic breakthroughs in institutional reform, infrastructure, and human resources, while adopting four key pillars to catch up, move forward together, and leverage its latecomer advantage to rise further.
With global economic uncertainties looming, he said this is an opportunity for Vietnam to restructure its economy, remove bottlenecks, and unlock new growth drivers, reaffirming the country's steadfast commitment to its growth targets. He also reiterated Vietnam’s role as a reliable partner, an attractive investment destination, and a dynamic economy in the region.
During the discussion session, Deputy Prime Minister Dung acknowledged the effects of the US's tariff policies on Vietnam’s exports, foreign investment attraction, and macroeconomic management. He underscored Vietnam’s proactive and flexible stance, with trade negotiations underway to secure mutually beneficial outcomes.
Vietnam is working to conclude negotiations with the US soon with the best possible results, he said, viewing this as an opportunity to restructure the economy, strengthen self-reliance and resilience, diversify markets, and expand domestic consumption.
Dung highlighted the vision for a new era of accelerated growth, aiming to build a prosperous, democratic, fair and civilised nation where every citizen benefits from progress. To realise this, Vietnam has introduced revolutionary and historic policies, including streamlining the state apparatus, making sci-tech breakthroughs, fostering the private sector's growth, transforming governance from control to development facilitation, and leveraging deep international integration as a springboard for growth.
A key aspiration for Vietnam is to become a hub in the global semiconductor industry and a key link in the global semiconductor supply chain. Dung outlined priorities such as institutional reforms, infrastructure upgrades, investment incentives, workforce training, and a comprehensive semiconductor industry ecosystem. He expressed his confidence that Vietnam’s development aspirations will create new opportunities for investment cooperation and called on foreign investors, including those from Japan, to deepen their stakes in Vietnam.
On the sidelines of the event, Deputy Prime Minister Dung met with Senior Managing Director of the Nikkei Group Daisuke Arakawa, who expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s impressive socio-economic achievements and its new mindset and vision for development. He noted that Vietnam’s ongoing reforms have captured the attention of the international community, opening up numerous opportunities for cooperation in the coming years.
Deputy Prime Minister Dung also urged the Nikkei Group to amplify Vietnam’s story globally and partner in its next development phase.
