The Government and the Prime Minister have been persistent with the set goals and have proactively developed growth scenarios and management plans right from the beginning of the year.

In performing duties, the Government has always monitored and forecasted the situation in a timely manner to issue appropriate policies, while regulating the fiscal and monetary policies in a proactive, synchronous and effective fashion.

The Government has always been actively seeking measures to boost labor productivity and growth quality in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), in addition to approving a project on unobserved economy statistics to approach international standards.

Regarding foreign affairs, the Government has continued to strengthen the country’s defense-security potentials, while effectively implement foreign affairs and international integration, thus affirming Vietnam’s political position in the international arena.

Investments in mechanizing the agricultural sector and renovating the manufacturing and processing technologies over the past years have helped Vietnam to meet the strict requirements from the 12 free trade agreements (FTAs) which have already come into force, thus contributing to the country’s export growth in many new markets.

The Industry 4.0 has been spreading out widely. The most specific action of the Government is the launching of the national public service portal, which initially comprises eight types of interconnected services from the central level to the local level and branches, and can help to save over VND4.2 trillion compared to the direct services, thus providing optimal support for the people and businesses.

Notably, thanks to the thorough and responsible preparations, together with the promulgation of 11 new laws, the Government issued Resolution No. 01-2020 setting out specific tasks towards exceeding the targets set by the National Assembly, thus facilitating proactivity, creativity and seriousness in organizing the task implementation and responding to the complicated developments in the region and the world.

Vietnam has attained significant achievements that are highly appreciated by international friends.

According to a recent report published by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), from 1990 to 2018, Vietnam had an average annual human development index (HDI) growth of 1.36%, one of the highest rates among countries worldwide.

In addition, the World Bank (WB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) forecast that most Asian countries will see a growth slowdown in 2020 but Vietnam was still predicted to grow at around 7% thanks to its good macro management and institutional reforms in various areas.

Accordingly, Vietnam will remain an attractive and safe destination for foreign investors.

In his article published on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2020, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that 2020 sees Vietnam assume a dual role of ASEAN Chair and non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term.

He stressed the need to capitalize on these opportunities to further enhance the country’s position and take advantage of favorable international conditions to serve national construction and defense.

The aforementioned reality requires Vietnam to have strong political determination and take drastic action, especially to accelerate administrative reforms, in order to maximize all resources towards creating a new motivation for the rapid and sustainable development of the country, the Government leader said.

After more than 30 years of renovation and 45 years since national reunification with rapid and sustainable growth, the new spring is opening new sources of light for Vietnam to enter a modern development period with favorable natural and human conditions. The people’s lives have been constantly improving. The new beauty inside the Vietnamese people and country is becoming more attractive owing to extensive global integration.

Vietnamese people greet the Lunar New Year 2020 with a lot of joy, from an economic growth rate of over 7%, a consumer price index (CPI) growth rate of below 3% and a trade turnover exceeding US$500 billion for the first time, to many other significant achievements in security-defense, culture, society and particularly sports (Vietnam won 98 gold medals at the 30th SEA Games, including two in men’s and women’s football).

These proud accomplishments have created a strong boost for the whole nation to head into 2020 with new position, thus affirming Vietnam’s role as ASEAN Chair and non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
