Co To gradually becomes attractive destination for tourists
Co To island is located in Quang Ninh provice, 170 km to the northeast of Hanoi capital. It has an area of 47.3 km2 with about 50 large and small islands and is considered having the most beautiful beach in the North of Vietnam.

This is one of the outposts with an extremely important position in politics, economy, defense, security as well as foreign affairs. With natural advantages and sustainable development direction, Co To is reaching out to become an attractive tourist destination in the North of Vietnam.
Natural advantage
Co To not only has a particularly important position in terms of national defense and security, but also has a diverse flora ecosystem, beautiful natural landscapes and many unique cultural features of the sea people.
The island district is favoured by nature with 50 large and small islands, in which, there are 3 large islands: large Co To island with area of 1,780 ha, Thanh Lan island 1,887 ha, Tran island 512 ha, the rest are other small islands. Currently, there are still primeval forests with an area of 10 hectares on the large Co To island. Many streets are surrounded by green trees, notably casuarina trees and green pine forests.
Co To sea area is also considered as one of the leading biodiversity areas in Vietnam with many typical ecosystems of tropical waters, including concentrated coral reef ecosystems.
Besides, the islands owns a series of beautiful beaches such as Tau Dam, Hong Van, Van Chai, Bac Van, Vom Si, and Ong Vien, and the beach is located between the large Co To island and the small Co To island. However, the most beautiful is Hong Van beach with its long stretch of fine white sand, clean and flat sea, clear water surface.
Furthermore, Co To sea area, located near large fishing grounds, has abundant fishery reserves - more than 1,000 types, of which, there are more than 60 high economic value species such as fish: Song, Lutianidae, butterfish, Mackerel, pompano and many kinds of rare crustaceans, molluscs such as: pearl, abalone, lobster, sea cucumber, etc. This is an advantage for Co To to develop the fisheries economy.
In recent years, the central Government and Quang Ninh province have paid much attention on investing for the development of the island and brought about many changes to the area in its socio-economic situation. Investment poured on many technical, economic, cultural and social infrustructure constructions has help futher promoting the district's socio-economic development. From a poor island district, Co To has now "reached out" to become a famous tourist island district and a major fishery logistics center in the Northeast region, a destination attracted many tourists and visitors who promise for a return date.
The economic model of Co To island district is agriculture - forestry - fishery and tourism services, in which the main focus is on fishing and seafood processing. However, Co To also focuses on agricultural production with the specialty of orange trees being planted concentratedly on Thanh Lan island.
Up to now, Co To owns 260 accommodation facilities, including 44 hotels from 1 to 3 stars, with a total of nearly 3,000 rooms, all ready to welcome guests, ensuring standards in terms of the best service quality and safety for visitors.
In recent years, Co To has become an attractive destination for many domestic and international tourists.
Sustainable development
Currently, Co To focuses on developing tourism services and this field is gradually asserting its key role in the economic structure of the islands district.

Under the direction of tourism development of the district toward 2025, Co To will become a national eco-tourism sea and island resort, a main destination in the tourist complex of Cat Ba - Ha Long - Van Don - Co To - Mong Cai - Tra Co with a variety of tourism, sports and entertainment both on the sea and on the islands.
The bright spot of Co To tourism is that the people of the island district attach great importance to tourism development in association with preserving environmental hygiene in the area. In addition, the district also strengthens encourage people and tourists to join hands to protect the environment, paying special attention to hygiene, especially cleaning the environment of beaches.
In the coming time, on the basis of continuing to thoroughly understand and effectively implement the Resolution of the 8th Central Committee (13th tenure) on the Strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy to 2030, with a vision to 2045 and the overall development of Quang Ninh province, Co To focuses on development in the direction of opening up, integration, having a long-term vision, taking appropriate steps, ensuring fast, effective and sustainable development.
Accordingly, Co To will attract resources for focused investment and development of advantageous industries, attach importance to synchronous construction of infrastructure, implement preferential and open mechanisms and policies to attract investors to develop production and business on the island.
At the same time, the district will consider economic development as a basis to enhance national defense and security, protecting the area, and taking defense and security assurance as a premise for economic development, striving to make Co To a "National eco-tourism sea and island resort" and is also a very important outpost for national defense and security in the Northeastern sea of the country.
