Book tour: 'Chat with Gen Z'

Vietnam and the global economy are navigating an exceptionally turbulent period marked by historic, transformative changes. It is a pivotal moment that may redefine the international order.

In this uncertain environment, young people, especially Generation Z, are increasingly concerned about their careers and future in a rapidly evolving world. Unlike previous generations, Gen Z faces unique challenges from technological advancements and the rise of artificial intelligence (AI). As the pace of change accelerates, the assurance that studying or following a specific career path will lead to long-term stability is no longer a given.

Economist Trần Sĩ Chương has raised important questions: Is AI making traditional concepts like IQ outdated, as tools like ChatGPT take over tasks once associated with intelligence? He argues that today’s personal value lies more in emotional intelligence (EQ) - the ability to empathize, understand others, and think creatively, alongside the skill to ask the right questions to uncover crucial information.

In conjunction with the release of his book Chat with Gen Z, author Trần Sĩ Chương, in partnership with TIMES Publishing, embarked on a nationwide Book Tour. This tour engages with young people across Vietnam’s northern, central, and southern regions, offering discussions on critical contemporary issues at schools and businesses.

Within just 10 days in October, Trần Sĩ Chương took his “intellectual offspring” to major venues such as Hanoi’s Diplomatic Academy, Huế (Huế Book and Culture Club, Huế University, Huế University of Economics), Ho Chi Minh City (Van Lang University, Open University, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City), Đồng Nai (Eastern University of Technology), and numerous other organizations.

One of the tour’s main themes focuses on Generation Z, often called the “snowflake generation”, for their perceived fragility in facing life’s challenges. Aware of this perception, Trần Sĩ Chương crafted Chat with Gen Z to sit down with this generation, address their concerns, and offer solutions, shared experiences, and valuable lessons—essentially creating a guidebook for their personal and professional journeys.

His insights have become guiding principles for many young people, including: “The first step to entrepreneurship is finding yourself,” “Professionalism means attention to detail,” “Entrepreneurs should uphold ‘righteousness in business,’” and “A company only has value when it embodies sustainability and legacy.”

At each stop on the Book Tour, Trần Sĩ Chương underscores the importance of building inner strength—the confidence to navigate life’s pivotal moments. With this inner strength comes the need for a solid foundation of values that enable sustainable personal growth and effective leadership. As Vietnam integrates into the global economy, he emphasizes the need for each individual to cultivate an international perspective to understand what is happening in the world and why.
