The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the ASEAN Community Women's Circle of Hanoi (AWCH) held the ASEAN Family and Friends Day 2023 in the northern port city of Hai Phong on August 20.

The event is to celebrate the 56th founding anniversary of ASEAN and the 28th anniversary of Vietnam’s ASEAN membership.
Participating in the event there were Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Honorary President of ASEAN Women’s Circle in Ha Noi (AWCH) and Spouse of FM Bui Thanh Son, Madam Vu Thi Bich Ngoc; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet; Ambassadors, Head of Missions and families of diplomatic corps.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet said that the ASEAN Family and Friends Day event has become a tradition, an integral part of the annual ASEAN Day celebration.
He affirmed that the annual event presents an opportunity to further strengthen the foundation of friendship and cooperation among members of the ASEAN Family as well as between ASEAN and dialogue partners through different joint activities.
“Our get-together is the very testimony to the fact that diplomacy and state-to-state relations are in the end manifested by people-to-people interactions”, the Deputy FM said.

Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdi said the regular organisation of the event reaffirms the Vietnamese Government and people’s commitments and efforts to nurture the friendship between ASEAN member states and their partners.
The Ambassador stated that the event will strengthen the relationship, and in turn amplify the Association's continuous efforts to ensure ASEAN matters for the people in the region and beyond.

As part of the event, delegates visited Bach Dang River - a renowned relic site associated with three naval battles against invaders in Vietnam's history.
They also joined in various cultural exchanges, sports and folk games, and tasted traditional dishes of member states.
