The Vietnam International Defence Exhibition 2024 took place at the Gia Lam Military Airport on the outskirts of Hanoi from December 19 to 22, attracting a large number of defence industry enterprises both domestically and internationally, as well as thousands of visitors.
The expo, the second of its kind, gathered 242 units and enterprises from over 30 countries worldwide. It spanned a total area of over 100,000 sq.m, featuring both indoor and outdoor exhibition zones. Notably, many new military equipment and weaponry developed and produced by Vietnam's defence industry were introduced for the first time.
As of 12:00 PM on December 22, the expo had welcomed over 260,000 visitors, and 1,872 bilateral meetings and contacts had been held, with collaboration opportunities in various potential areas discussed.
According to Major General Le Quang Tuyen, Deputy Director of the General Department of Defence Industry, the exhibition strengthened public confidence in the growth of Vietnam’s defence industry and the capabilities of its military. It also enhanced national pride and awareness of citizens’ roles in safeguarding the nation.
In addition, the event affirmed Vietnam’s correct foreign policy approach and expanded defence cooperation with other countries.
Addressing the opening ceremony on December 19, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to the “Four Nos” defence policy that is not joining military alliances, not aligning with one country to oppose another, not allowing foreign military bases or using its territory against any other country, and not using force or threatening to use force in international relations.
In his view, Vietnam vows to build a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern army; and develop a robust national defence capacity to enhance its self-defence and protect the country in any circumstances.
He also highlighted Vietnam’s commitment to promoting defence cooperation to strengthen friendship, mutual understanding, and trust, while jointly addressing common security and safety challenges, preventing conflicts, and ensuring peace in line with international law.
The biennial event, hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence, aims to share achievements and experiences in researching, producing, and using weapons and equipment; and promote cooperation in the field of defence industry among participating countries.
