This is the first visit of Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. to Vietnam since taking office in June 2022.

The visit aims to reaffirm the solid strategic partnership between the two countries, strengthen political trust at the highest levels and create momentum to promote bilateral cooperation in all fields as Vietnam and Philippines are on the eve of a major milestone of the relations between the two countries such as celebrating 10 years of establishing strategic partnership in 2025 and 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations in 2026.

The visit not only contributes to strengthening the strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Philippines, bringing real benefits to the people of the two countries, but also makes an important contribution to strengthening ASEAN solidarity and the central role of ASEAN, creating and preserving an environment of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

In recent years, trade cooperation has been a bright spot in the two countries' relationship. The Philippines is currently Vietnam's leading rice consumption market with the amount of rice exported to the Philippines in 2023 reaching 3.1 million tons (equivalent to 1.75 billion USD), accounting for over 38% of Vietnam's total rice exports.

With the foundation of nearly 50 years of good relations, this state visit to Vietnam by the President of the Philippines will contribute to deepening the strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Philippines in general and the relationship between leaders of the two countries in particular; strengthen bilateral relations in all fields, especially economics, trade, investment, healthcare, education and training; defence security.
