Adjacent to the capital Wellington, Palmerston North holds significant potential for cooperation in education, training, high-quality human resource development, energy, high-tech agriculture, and the application of advanced technological solutions in crop and livestock care, as well as food safety assurance.

During the visit, Ambassador Phan Minh Giang paid a courtesy call and worked with Palmerston North Mayor Grant Smith.

At the meeting, Ambassador Phan Minh Giang provided updates on Vietnam's socio-economic development, emphasizing efforts to achieve the two centenary goals to realize the aspiration of building a strong, prosperous, and happy Vietnam. In this process, the Ambassador expressed a desire and confidence in the support of New Zealand in general and Palmerston North in particular, contributing to the effective implementation of the Vietnam-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, bringing more tangible benefits to the people and businesses of both countries.

Praising the potential and strengths of Palmerston North, Ambassador Phan Minh Giang noted that the city can complement and align with Vietnam's development needs, particularly in science and technology, innovation, green transition, and high-quality agriculture.

Additionally, the Ambassador proposed promoting exchanges and cooperation, as well as exploring partnerships between Palmerston North and various provinces and cities in Vietnam. On this occasion, Ambassador Phan Minh Giang expressed gratitude and requested Mayor Grant Smith to continue supporting and caring for the Vietnamese community in Palmerston North.

Palmerston North Mayor Grant Smith emphasized the increasing importance of Vietnam in the region and praised Vietnam's socio-economic achievements over the years. The Mayor affirmed that Palmerston North will continue to work closely with the Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand to effectively contribute to the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, while also being ready to enhance cooperative relations with Vietnamese localities in the future.

During the visit, Ambassador Phan Minh Giang also visited and worked with several educational institutions and research centers in Palmerston North. Previously, the Ambassador met with the Vietnamese community living, working, and studying in the city.
