I view Tet as a time for everyone to take a step back from their hustle and jobs, and spend more time with their families, relatives and friends. The communal joy and festive atmosphere during this period are pleasant, and it also reminds us, those who live far away, of our hometown.
Vietnamese Tet is a beautiful and meaningful event, and having lived in Viet Nam for 4 years, I also share the joy and festivity of the Vietnamese people during Tet.
At the Indonesian Embassy, we also celebrate Tet each year. The Embassy’s Vietnamese staff return to their hometowns to meet their families. While our Indonesian staff also take this time to spend time with their family and friend, either at home or by travelling to Vietnam’s popular destinations sites. Given Vietnam’s rising tourism industry and the increasing number of transportation alternatives, travelling around Vietnam’s tourism sites have become such a pleasant experience.
Looking back at the various achievements of Indonesia-Vietnam relations in the previous years, we have set the bar high for 2025. In 2024, our trade and investment grew exponentially, with total bilateral trade increasing by 21% to reach 16.7 billion USD, and two-way investment reaching significant heights. These were achieved amidst global uncertainties, and various disruptions.
In 2025, our aspirations would be to renew our commitments, to work together to strive towards our shared vision of becoming high-income countries by 2045. Looking ahead, I believe this requires approaches that are calculated, transformative, and anticipative - in line with the year of the snake.
As we celebrate Tet and enter 2025—a landmark year commemorating 70 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Vietnam, we hope we can foster our bilateral partnership further, to unlock new opportunities for collaboration and to strengthen our foundation in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
In 2024, Vietnam surpassed various forecasts and its own target by reaching a 7.09% economic growth - becoming one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. This was achieved amidst various challenges, including the Yagi Typhoon which caused significant damage and disruption. If this trend continues, Vietnam will be on track to achieve its target of becoming a high-income country by 2045 and reaching its net-zero emission goal by 2050.
I am certain that Vietnam will play a more influential role in the international community. Through various cooperation, international integration, and its proactive policies, Vietnam will be an even stronger contributor to peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
In this context, as fellow ASEAN members state and reflecting on our shared visions, Indonesia is pleased to see Vietnam’s development and stands ready to collaborate in strategic sectors. I truly believe that Vietnam is a vital partner in addressing global challenges such as economic resilience, peacebuiling and sustainable development.
On this beautiful occasion of Tet I also would like to wish the Vietnamese people a joyful and prosperous Vietnamese new year. Chúc Mừng Năm Mới!
