On the afternoon of April 10, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ regular press conference, in response to a request for comment and information about Vietnam’s next steps following U.S. President Donald Trump’s April 9 announcement of a 90-day pause on all reciprocal tariffs on goods from over 75 countries, including Vietnam, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated:
“We view the U.S.’ decision to pause reciprocal tariffs for 90 days on exports from other countries, including Viet Nam, as a positive step. Guided by the spirit of the Vietnam - U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and grounded in mutual respect, the two countries will negotiate a reciprocal trade agreement, aiming to reach satisfactory solutions towards fair and sustainable trade that benefits the people and business communities of both countries.”
