At the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi paid an official visit to Vietnam and co-chaired the 5th session of the Vietnam-Indonesia Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) from April 24-25, 2024.
Previously, on April 23rd, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi attended the ASEAN Future Forum 2024 held in Hanoi, initiated by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

In the early morning of April 24th, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son invited Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi for a stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake and to enjoy Pho and coffee in Hanoi as a way to kick-start their new day of work.

The two Foreign Ministers exchanged views on bilateral relations and discussed measures to further strengthen the deep and robust Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia across all fields.

Within ASEAN, Indonesia is currently Vietnam's third-largest trading partner, and Vietnam is Indonesia's fourth-largest trading partner. Trade turnover has nearly tripled after 10 years of establishing the Strategic Partnership framework.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi highly appreciated the traditionally strong relationship between the two countries in general and between the two Foreign Ministries in particular. The close friendship and coordination between the two Foreign Ministries have played an important role in enhancing relationship between the two countries.

The two Foreign Ministers agreed to continue enhancing cooperation to elevate the Strategic Partnership to new heights; further strengthen high-level exchanges and contacts at all levels; effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms, high-level agreements, signed documents; and organize meaningful activities to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.
