Vietnam-Egypt boost cooperation in defense industry

WVR - From December 1-4, a delegation from the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam, led by Major General Phan Thi Hoai Van, Deputy Director of the General Department of Defense Industry, attended the EDEX 2025 International Defense Exhibition in Cairo, Egypt.

EDEX (Egypt Defence Expo) is the largest annual defense exhibition in Egypt and the Middle East-Africa region. This year's EDEX marks the fourth edition, attracting the participation of 150 official delegations and over 40,000 visitors from various countries worldwide.

More than 450 defense companies and corporations from 86 countries participated in showcasing and introducing products at EDEX 2025.

During the exhibition, the delegation met with Egypt's Minister of Military Production, M. Salah El-Din Mostafa.

Major General Phan Thi Hoai Van emphasized the interest of the Vietnamese Minister of National Defense in sending a delegation to Egypt to boost cooperation between the two countries in the defense industry.

She also expressed a desire to strengthen cooperation in the defense industry between Vietnam and Egypt through delegation exchanges, especially high-level leadership delegations.

The head of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense delegation also shared that Vietnam will organize the third International Defense Exhibition in 2026 and extended an invitation to Egypt to participate in showcasing defense industry products at this exhibition.

The Egyptian side appreciated Vietnam's high-level delegation attending EDEX 2025, affirming readiness to promote substantive cooperation and expressing a desire to soon send a business delegation to Vietnam to work towards establishing a long-term cooperation agreement in the defense industry.

During EDEX 2025, the delegation also visited and worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt.

At the meeting, Major General Phan Thi Hoai Van informed all embassy staff about the purpose of the mission, the outcomes of the work at EDEX 2025, and the results of the meeting with Egypt's Ministry of Military Production.

She expressed the hope that the embassy would continue to coordinate and support the connection of cooperation activities in the defense industry, facilitating businesses and authorities of both countries to implement cooperation initiatives in the future.

For his part, Ambassador Nguyen Nam Duong updated the delegation on Egypt's recent economic and political situation and the bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Ambassador affirmed that the embassy is actively implementing the positive outcomes of President Luong Cuong's visit to Egypt earlier in August.

The Ambassador stated that to realize the vision of a Comprehensive Partnership, senior leaders of both countries have agreed to enhance cooperation in key areas such as politics, diplomacy, security, defense, economy, trade, and agriculture.

Accordingly, promoting defense and security cooperation aims to ensure the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of each country, contributing to maintaining a peaceful and cooperative environment in both regions and globally. The Ambassador emphasized that the embassy is always ready to act as a bridge to connect cooperation activities between the two sides.
