Vietnam attends 44th session of Copyright Committee of WIPO

The 44th session of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR/44) was opened on November 6.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Department of Copyright Office of Vietnam Pham Thi Kim Oanh was attending the 44th session of the WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR/44) that opened on November 6 in Geneva, Switzerland.

Vietnam delegates were attending the 44th session of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR/44) that opened in Geneva on November 6.

The session focused on discussions on issues such as the third draft amendment to the WIPO Treaty on Broadcasting Organizations and the Report on Exceptions and Limitations of Rights to Libraries and Archives, educational and research facilities, and people with disabilities.

The Vietnamese delegation, in its role as ASEAN Chairman, represented ASEAN to make a joint speech at dialogue sessions on the High Commissioner's Annual Report on the situation of human rights and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation human rights in the Philippines, annual discussion sessions on climate change, technical cooperation.

The Vietnamese delegation also actively participated in developing the content of documents, co-sponsored many initiatives in the spirit of dialogue and cooperation, expressing consistent views, policies, achievements of Vietnam and viewpoints, ASEAN's common achievements in promoting and protecting human rights, contributing to other countries ensuring that the activities of the National Assembly are consistent with the basic principles of international law.

During a three-day session, participants at the SCCR/44 discuss the draft treaty for the protection of broadcasting organizations, reports on limitations and exceptions for libraries and archives, and reports on limitations and exceptions for educational and research institutions and for persons with other disabilities.

Other matters for discussion include a proposal for Analysis of Copyright Related to the Digital Environment, a proposal from Senegal and Congo to include the Resale Right (droit de suite) in the Agenda of Future Work by the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights of the World Intellectual Property Organisation, and a proposal on the Part of the Russian Federation With Regard to Strengthening the Protection of Theatre Directors’ Rights at the International Level.
