During the meeting, both sides engaged in extensive discussions on Vietnam – Vatican relations and the current situation of the Catholic Church in Vietnam. They acknowledged the positive contributions of the Church to Vietnam's overall development, emphasizing the spirit of living the gospel within the nation, where good Catholics are also good citizens.
Both parties expressed satisfaction with the progress in bilateral relations since the 11th meeting of the Vietnam – Vatican Joint Working Group, held in Hanoi in May 2024. The meeting took place in an atmosphere of friendship, trust, and mutual respect.
During the visit to the Vatican, the Vietnamese delegation met with Pope Leo XIV and paid courtesy visits to the Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Paul Gallagher.
