The vaccination was carried out at Ho Chi Minh City-based Military Hospital 175 managed by the Ministry of National Defence.
The first shot was given to those who are scheduled to take on duty at level-2 field hospital No3 in South Sudan.
Doctor Nguyen Thanh Nam, said he was a bit nervous before getting the jab.
“I see this as a safe and lucky start before I leave for an international mission. The COVID-19 outbreak in South Sudan remains quite complicated,” said the doctor.
According to Major General Nguyen Hong Son, director of Military Hospital 175, safety was given top priority during the vaccination campaign.
“Those who receive the shot are required to stay in hospital for half an hour for medical surveillance,” said Son. “Their health will be then closely monitored within 24 hours.”
The Major General added that the vaccine will be transported to South Sudan where the Vietnamese officers, soldiers and doctors are due to get the second shot.
