Refreshed vitality in Ta Lu Highlands

WVR - Coming to Ta Lu today, everyone clearly feels the change in the life of the Co Tu ethnic group. Ta Lu has put on a new look, a refreshed vitality from newly installed electricity - roads - schools – clinics, running water stations to improve the quality of lives of the people.

Ta Lu is a highland commune of Dong Giang district, Quang Nam province, inhabited by the Co Tu ethnic group. Previously, the lives of people here were extremely poor, mainly relying on nature bestowed rural farming, so the food supply was not enough to feed, roads were not convenient for traveling. Previously, Ta Lu had four hamlets: Pa Nai 1, Pa Nai 2, A Reh hamlet and DhRong hamlet. In implementation of merging administrative units, Ta Lu is now re-established into two hamlets: Pa Nai and A Reh-DhRong hamlet.

Following the National Target Program on building new rural areas, Ta Lu has implemented many synchronous and focused solutions with many good and creative ways, relevant to local actual economic conditions, to build new rural areas.

The movement attracted the participation of a large number of people in joining hands to build new rural areas. The appearance of Ta Lu commune has shown many changes, from electricity - roads - schools – clinics, water supply plants to improve the quality of life. Roads in the commune's hamlets are paved with concrete cement and cleaned. The schools at all levels are spaciously built to meet the learning needs of children. The newly built commune health care clinic is a place for medical examination and treatment when the local people get sick. The dwelling houses of Co Tu ethnic people are more solid and spacious.

The wireless speaker system is fully installed, clean water plant is built in residential areas namely Solidarity Groups to serve the people's lives. 95% of households in the commune have access to and are provided with information about state policies; in statistic words, 70% meet national criteria for commune health care; over 90% can access to hygienic water supply sources. The rate of poor households in the commune decreases by an average annual rate of 5-7%. From a particularly difficult commune, thanks to the State's investment attention, Ta Lu is prospering day by day.

Sitting in a spacious tile-roofed house, after serving us a tea course, talking about the hard life in the past and feeling the pleasant life today that the Co Tu people in the Ta Lu highland have, Mr. Alang Than - a reputable person in A Reh-DhRong hamlet, emotionally said: “From the past of hunger, lack of clothing, and a hard life, now our people no longer worry about hunger, the family economy is increasingly developing, there is enough food to eat, children are fully educated, and there is a sports ground for the kids to play on. That is thanks to the Party and State that care for, invest in and guide the Co Tu people how to do business.

As a prestigious person, Mr. Alang Than also mobilized people in the hamlets to contribute manpower and money to repair the Guol (traditional hamlet hall) and repair the volleyball court. Then, the Co Tu people in the hamlets have a place for congregation, and children in the hamlet have conditions to play sports. The gong dancing group is regularly mobilized and passed on the performance skills to the younger generation. Some traditional handicrafts, such as wickerwork, weaving are opening up the business opportunities for the Co Tu people in Aréh - Dhrong hamlet here to develop their family economy.

The hamlet elder of Co Tu – Elderly Polong Pac in A Reh-DhRong hamlet shared: “Ten years ago, if anyone had the opportunity to go to the Ta Lu highlands, they would have felt all the hardship. Since implementing Program 135 and other State policies, Dong Giang district has focused on investing in infrastructure and supporting seedlings for people to develop economically and stabilize their lives.

Now, in Ta Lu, there are many households of the Co Tu ethnic group with a stable life, to secure an annual income of hundreds of millions of dong, gradually rising out of poverty, becoming a shining example of the highland community. A typical example is Mr. Bh'nuuh Hung's household (Pa Nai Solidarity Group), which has more than 2 hectares of acacia and raises 6 hybrid wild boars and more than 10 hybrid wild boars for commercial beef, each year generating an income of over VND 250 million.

The household of Ms. Zoram Thi Hang (Areh - Dhrong Solidarity Group) with the model of growing clean vegetables, every day providing more than 50kg to the district market and surrounding areas, her family has a stable income, thus escaped from poverty line in 2022.

Mr. Pling Trao - Vice Chairman of Ta Lu Commune People's Committee, said: “Basically to have the change like it is today, every year Dong Giang district and all levels of sectors always pay special attention to the lives of Ta Lu people. However, in order to catch up with communes in the district, in the coming time, the State needs to continue to pay attention to supporting the localities with capital to build infrastructure and invest in appropriate economic models, locally applicable for economic development”.
