Agriculture, aquaculture, renewable energy, and tourism bolster Quang Binh's economy. The province saw total seafood output of more than 70,000 tons in its second shrimp farm production cycle last year, including 9,500 tons generated by just the first harvests for export. More than $500 million were secured investments in the renewable energy sector, with projects like the 252 MW B&T Wind Power Project highlighting what can be achieved. Tourism showed signs of recovery after the pandemic, with more than 2 million visitors and revenue exceeding VND 4,200 billion. Situated on the central coast of Vietnam Quang Binh is investing in infrastructure projects such as the extension of Dong Hoi Airport and improvements of Hon La Port which will further cement its position as an important maritime trade and logistics hub for both locals abroad.

A land of natural marvels

The distinctive topography and geography of Quang Binh is a perfect composite of mountains, forests, rivers, and seas. Bounded by the Annamite Range on its west and the East Sea on its east, this region breaks up nature like no place else. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park is the jewel in Quang Binh's tourism crown. Situated at the centre of Quang Binh's year-round bright and windy region, Phong Nha is a green oasis amidst the desert. It takes only a few steps into the cave for visitors to experience the faint aroma of limestone, humidity, and a cold, refreshing atmosphere. The park houses some of the world's most spectacular caves including Son Doong Cave, the largest known cave on the planet. Adventurers flock to Son Doong not just for its sheer size, but for the surreal landscapes hidden within lush underground jungles, flowing rivers, and towering stalagmites.

Beyond Son Doong, Quang Binh's cave network includes the mesmerizing Paradise Cave and the naturally lit Phong Nha Cave, each offering a different experience for explorers. Kong Collapse, part of the Tiger Cave system in Phong Nha - Ke Bang, gained fame from its resemblance to a giant monkey head in the film Kong: Skull Island. At 450 meters deep, it ranks among the world's deepest sinkholes. Exploring Kong Collapse offers a challenging adventure: a 100-meter zipline, a 23-kilometre trek, a 300-meter swim, and 7 kilometres of cave exploration. The journey includes hours of walking on rugged trails with constant elevation changes.

A taste of local delicacies

Quang Binh's cuisine delights with unique and flavorful dishes. ‘Banh bot loc’, translucent dumplings made from tapioca flour and filled with seasoned pork and shrimp, offer a chewy texture and savoury taste. The unique aspect of Quang Binh's banh bot loc is the addition of green bean filling. ‘Chao canh’ stands out as a hearty noodle soup featuring thick, soft rice noodles simmered in a rich broth with pork, mushrooms, and fresh herbs. Another local favourite, ‘banh mi bot loc’, combines the traditional Vietnamese baguette with a filling of tapioca flour-based dumplings, creating a distinctive twist on classic bánh mì. Each dish showcases the province's ability to blend local ingredients and traditional flavours into delicious culinary experiences.

Quang Binh, with its diverse natural wonders, rich history, and expanding economic opportunities, holds far more than first impressions suggest. The province's ongoing investments in infrastructure and commitment to sustainable practices position it as an emerging force in Vietnam's tourism and economic landscape.
