PM Pham Minh Chinh meets with Mozambican President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi in Hanoi

WVR/VNA - On September 9, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Mozambican President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi discussed and agreed on specific measures to further promote cooperation between the two countries.

At their meeting in Hanoi, Prime Minister Chinh thanked President Nyusi for his condolences to the Vietnamese people on the passing of late Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who during his lifetime always fostered the development of the relationship between Vietnam and Mozambique.

Expressing his delight at revisiting Vietnam, President Nyusi thanked Party General Secretary and President To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, other leaders and people of Vietnam for their warm and intimate welcome. He congratulated Vietnam on its remarkable achievements in the fields of politics, society, economic growth and its enhanced position in the international arena.

The President emphasised the determination of the State and Government of Mozambique in consolidating and developing cooperative relations in all fields with Vietnam.

The two leaders discussed and agreed on specific measures to implement the results of the earlier talks between Party General Secretary and President To Lam and President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi to further promote bilateral cooperation.

In terms of politics, the two sides agreed to continue to increase delegation exchanges at all levels and through Party, State, National Assembly and Government channels to strengthen political trust and create new momentum for enhancing the bilateral cooperation.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Chinh sent his regards and invited Prime Minister of Mozambique Adriano Maleiane to visit Vietnam in the coming time when the two countries will celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.

The two sides expressed their delight at the positive development in economic and trade cooperation between the two countries in recent times, in which bilateral trade turnover in 2023 reached 550 million USD, three times higher than in 2022.

Prime Minister Chinh suggested the two countries promote the exchange of complementary goods such as agricultural products, fertilizers, machinery, garments, footwear from Vietnam and coal, cashew nuts, or wood from Mozambique.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister thanked and requested Mozambique to continue to pay attention to and create favourable conditions for Movitel telecommunications joint venture, with the participation of Viettel Group, to operate stably and expand business, contributing more positively to the economic and social development of Mozambique.

Expressing high agreement with the orientations and solutions to promote cooperation proposed by Prime Minister Chinh, President Nyusi affirmed that he would direct the Government of Mozambique to coordinate with Vietnamese ministries, agencies and partners to improve the effectiveness of economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, as well as expanding cooperation in other areas such as education, health, digital transformation, processing and manufacturing.

The President emphasised his priority for agricultural and aquatic cooperation and expressed his hope that Vietnam will continue to share experiences and support Mozambique in improving its capacity to exploit and process aquatic products and develop aquaculture projects.

Regarding multilateral cooperation, the two sides agreed to continue to coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums and international organisations, especially at the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement and important organisations of which both nations are members such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the African Union (AU).

In the context of the rapidly evolving, complicated and unpredictable developments of the global and regional situation, the two sides agreed to continue to closely cooperate and support each other at international and regional forums of mutual concern; share a common vision on ensuring security, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea; maintain a peaceful, stable environment, and legal order and resolve disputes at sea by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

On this occasion, Prime Minister Chinh thanked the Government of Mozambique for its attention and creating favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, work and study stably in Mozambique.

He also expressed his hope that Mozambique will continue promoting people-to-people exchanges and creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to invest and do business in the country.
