Party chief nominated to assume President position
All members of the 12th Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) Central Committee have agreed to nominate General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng as a candidate for the post of President, to be elected in the 14th National Assembly’s sixth session to be held later this month.

The agreement was made on the second working day of the Party Central Committee’s eighth session on Wednesday.
In the morning, the Party Central Committee discussed reports on the country’s socio-economic situation and State budget implementation in 2018 and plans for 2019.
The committee discussed personnel work in the afternoon session.
The Party Central Committee also elected two additional members of its Inspection Commission, namely Võ Thái Nguyên and Trần Đức Thăng.
