Closing the session, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong underlined the need to continue focusing on preparing documents for the upcoming 14th National Party Congress, ensuring that the documents demonstrate the will and strength to rise of the whole Party, people, and army in the new development period, as well as the determination to build a strong nation of democracy, prosperity, civilisation, and happiness, steadily advancing to socialism.
The documents must clearly define major policies, orientations, and measures to ensure the success of the renewal process in the next five years with a vision to 2045, he said.
The leader sketched out orientations for the preparation of documents for the upcoming congress, stressing the need to define major tasks, targets, and solutions as well as key missions and strategic breakthroughs for the new tenure.
He pointed to the need to deeply analyse and evaluate the implementation of the goals and tasks for the 2021 - 2025 period, clarifying the remaining limitations and weaknesses, their causes, and lessons learned.
On the personnel preparation for the 14th National Party Congress, the leader said that the work must be conducted in line with the Party regulations, with careful reviewing to ensure that nominated and selected officials meet all criteria and are able to perform their tasks in the new situation, while introducing promising officials and making sure of adequate proportion of young, female, and ethnic minority officials.
The Party Central Committee assigned the Politburo to promptly direct the completion and issuance of a directive guiding the entire Party in preparing and conducting Party Congresses at all levels, ensuring the success of the 14th National Party Congress.
During the session, the Party Central Committee elected new members of the Politburo, namely Le Minh Hung, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission, and head of the Party Central Committee’s Office; Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education; Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation; and Do Van Chien, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee.
The Party Central Committee decided to allow Truong Thi Mai to stop holding the positions of member of the Politburo and member of the 13th Party Central Committee for violating the regulation on the things that a Party member is not allowed to do.
The committee also decided to expel from the Party member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee and head of the National Assembly deputy delegation of Bac Giang province Duong Van Thai; and former member of the Party Central Committee and former Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung.
It decided to remove all positions in the Party for Le Thanh Hai, former Politburo member, former Secretary of the Party Committee, former Secretary of the Party Civil Affairs Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and former Chairman of the city People's Committee, for violating Party regulations and State laws.
