Queen without Land - a Norwegian documentary film, will be screened in Hanoi within the framework of the international nature film festival in Vietnam.

The information is shared by the Norwegian Ambassador to Vietnam Hilde Solbakken in the press conference held on September 20 in Hanoi.

Queen without Land is an unpretentious and sensitive film on the meeting between Frost, a beautiful polar bear mother, and the filmmaker. It is a five-year journey, since their first encounter at her arctic home in Svalbard, a Norwegian archipelago in the Artic Ocean.

For 70 minutes, Asgeir Helgestad reveals to audience the struggle of Frost and her cubs as the ice melts under their paws at record speeds. Climate change and especially rising temperatures are responsible for dramatic changes in Frost’s ecosystem.

In his film, Helgestad captures the beauty of the Arctic as well as its vast landscapes, unforgettable light, and all forms of life from microscopic algae to huge walruses come together to accentuate an unprecedented struggle for survival.

The film is also an insightful reflection on man’s place on earth and an homage to life. With feelings alternating continually between hope and despair for Frost and her small cubs, the film explores the question “this planet is home to all of us, can we afford to ignore it?”

Norwegian Ambassador to Vietnam Hilde Solbakken introduces the film "Queen without Land" at the press conference.

“The Norwegian Embassy in Hanoi and Norwegian Film Institute are delighted to introduce this film to the audience in the Capital City of Hanoi, particularly young people.

Climate change is one of the most dramatic challenges facing the world today. Its impacts are no longer a concern of the future, but rather a present reality we must address now. Many countries are already feeling the effects of climate change.

For Norway – it is the dramatic changes in the Arctic as ice is melting, and for Vietnam it is the sea level rising and extreme weather incidents”, said Ambassador Solbakken.

For the beautiful photography and a clear message, Queen without Land has won nearly 40 international prizes including awards since its release in 2018 including prizes at the biggest wildlife film and photo competitions such as Wildlife Photographer of the Year and Wildscreen Film Festival.

Queen without Land will be screened with Vietnamese and English subtitlesat the Goethe Institute in Hanoi, at 19:30, 28 September 2022. Free entrance. Register at Norwayinhanoi@gmail.com.
