The delegation was welcomed at the airport by Deputy President of the Malaysian Senate Datuk Nur Jazlan bin Tan Sri Mohamed, representatives of the AIPA Malaysia Organizing Committee, Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia Dinh Ngoc Linh and his spouse, along with Embassy staff.
NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man leading the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend AIPA-46 reaffirms the commitment of the Vietnamese National Assembly to actively participate and contribute to enhancing AIPA’s role in maintaining peace, stability, and cooperation in the region, realizing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, and elevating ASEAN’s central role. It also supports Malaysia as the ASEAN 2025 and AIPA-46 Chair.
Alongside actively collaborating with ASEAN countries to promote inclusive and sustainable growth, this visit provides an opportunity for Vietnam to integrate and advance priorities and initiatives, particularly in cybersecurity, new energy, and the digital economy, aligning Vietnam's development goals with ASEAN.
During the visit, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man is expected to attend the AIPA Executive Committee meeting, participate in the Opening Ceremony, and deliver a significant speech at the first plenary session.
The National Assembly Chairman will also engage in bilateral meetings with heads of AIPA member parliamentary delegations and partners.
This marks the first official visit of Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman to Malaysia since the two countries officially upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in November 2024.
The visit occurs as Vietnam-Malaysia relations are in an exceptionally positive phase, characterized by high political trust, close economic and investment cooperation, and strong people-to-people exchanges.
Both sides regularly maintain high-level and various-level engagements and bilateral cooperation mechanisms, sharing numerous strategic perspectives and interests on most international issues, and closely coordinating within ASEAN and multilateral forums.
Economically, Malaysia is Vietnam's third-largest trading partner in ASEAN and ninth globally, with bilateral trade reaching 14.2 billion USD in 2024, a 12% increase from 2023.
Within the broader bilateral relationship, the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Malaysian Parliament continue to maintain excellent cooperation both bilaterally and multilaterally. Both sides frequently exchange delegations, engage in high-level interactions, and closely coordinate within regional and international inter-parliamentary mechanisms such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), and AIPA.
During the visit, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man is expected to hold talks and meetings with Malaysia's leaders, meet with Embassy staff, and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Malaysia.
