Towards a new growth pole

According to Decision No. 759/QD-TTgCP dated April 14, 2025 by the Prime Minister, Lam Dong, Binh Thuan, and Dak Nong were merged into a new province named Lam Dong.

With the largest natural area in the country (24,233.07 km²) covering three ecological zones (plateau, midland, and coastal), integrating sea, forest, border gates, and seaports, Lam Dong is having numerous opportunities for breakthrough development thanks to its vast space, abundant resources, and strategic geographical position.

These are the “favorable timing, favorable terrain, and favorable human factors” that allow Lam Dong to become a new growth pole, especially in fields such as tourism, high-tech agriculture, mining and mineral processing, based on the inherent strengths of each sub-region.

In the first seven months of 2025, the provincial industrial production index (IIP) increased by 3.49% compared to the same period last year; accommodation service revenue reached 6,004.5 billion VND, up 14.56%; total retail sales of goods and service revenue were estimated at 142,531.9 billion VND, up 12.56%.

Currently, the province has 2,940 projects with a total investment capital of about 2.7 million billion VND. Industrial zones have attracted a total of 234 investment projects, including 187 domestic projects and 47 foreign projects, with registered capital reaching 43,742.8 billion VND and 454.1 million USD.

One of Lam Dong’s greatest strengths is its huge reserves of economically valuable mineral resources. About 80% of Vietnam’s bauxite reserves are concentrated in Dak Nong and former Lam Dong.

After the merger, Lam Dong became the national center for bauxite mining and aluminum electrolysis, with large projects in operation, under construction, or seeking approval. In addition to bauxite, Lam Dong also possesses titan reserves accounting for about 92% of Vietnam’s total (equivalent to 600 million tons).

Tourism is also a sector with great potential, as Lam Dong boasts famous destinations such as Ta Dung, Da Lat, Mui Ne, and La Gi, combined with a rich and diverse climate, heritage systems, and landscapes.

The province is home to the UNESCO-recognized Langbiang Biosphere Reserve and Dak Nong Global Geopark, which play important roles in biodiversity and geological heritage conservation, in line with sustainable socio-economic development, creating a harmonious balance between conservation and development.

Lam Dong tourism is increasingly attractive as it gathers all elements of “high mountains, vast lakes, blue seas, beautiful islands”, with many opportunities to rise as a major tourism center of the region and the world.

In addition, Lam Dong is also a center of large-scale agricultural production, a hub for high-tech agriculture, aquaculture, processing industries and renewable energy such as hydropower, wind and solar. This allows the province to form a diversified and flexible economic structure, creating a multi-pillar economic ecosystem, reducing the risks of dependence on a single industry while increasing attractiveness to investors.

Promoting key external relations

With the guidance of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People’s Committee, and support from the central government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lam Dong’s external relations activities have been effectively implemented.

The image of Vietnam in general and Lam Dong in particular has been introduced and promoted to international friends and organizations, contributing to strengthening international relations and integration; boosting international cooperation, attracting foreign investment and tourism; and enhancing connections between overseas Vietnamese communities and the cause of national building and defense.

Following the trend of strengthening international integration, the province continues to expand and enhance focused Party-to-Party foreign relations; mobilize domestic and foreign resources for sustainable socio-economic development; and maintain and deepen cooperative and friendly relations with existing foreign partners such as Laos, South Korea, Japan, Belgium, and France.

The province also seeks new partners and cooperation opportunities with Italy, Australia, Cuba, China, Singapore, the Netherlands and others. Cultural diplomacy and external communication are effectively combined, promoting international cultural cooperation through performances, exhibitions, and exchange activities.

The province prioritizes attracting investment in areas of local strength, including large-scale projects, high-tech agriculture, processing industries for agricultural, forestry, and mineral products (especially deep processing of export agricultural products, a key provincial industry), and imports of advanced technology products to serve economic development. It also invests in industrial zone infrastructure and public utilities.

Lam Dong also leverages free trade agreements (CPTPP, EVFTA, RCEP), actively seeks and expands markets, especially high-standard export markets, and implements domestic and international trade connection activities in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and foreign diplomatic missions.

Tourism products are also being diversified, in connection with economic models, making effective use of tangible and intangible cultural values in tourism. Digital technology is increasingly applied in building information technology products to serve tourism promotion.

E-commerce is developed in parallel with the digital economy; brand building and promotion are emphasized, especially the brand “Da Lat – A magical crystallization from good land”. Effective product management and traceability are carried out, particularly for agricultural goods and specialty products that have been preliminarily processed and packaged.

The province also strengthens state management of labor and employment, regularly monitoring labor export activities, promoting vocational training and foreign language education, and promptly addressing issues in labor recruitment and overseas employment.

Lam Dong closely coordinates with foreign diplomatic missions in Vietnam and Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad in handling consular and citizen protection matters. The organizational structure for overseas Vietnamese affairs is consolidated, while efforts continue to mobilize overseas Vietnamese, especially those from Lam Dong, to contribute to building the homeland and strengthening the province’s international friendship and cooperation ties.
