The event is part of a series of activities marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 – August 19, 2025) and Independence Day (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025).
Attending the meeting were more than 400 delegates, including veteran revolutionary cadres, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, Hoang Dieu Viet Minh soldiers, outstanding contributors, and former leaders of the city across different periods.
This is a meaningful activity that reflects the attention of the Party Committee, authorities, and people of Hanoi towards veteran revolutionaries, contributors, and policy families; honoring and expressing gratitude for their immense contributions and sacrifices in the cause of national liberation as well as in building and defending the Fatherland.
The meeting opened with a special art program and a televised documentary that recreated the heroic spirit of the August Uprising in the capital Hanoi.
Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai expressed deep gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh and millions of heroic martyrs, the pioneering leaders of the Party and the nation, veteran revolutionaries, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, Heroes of the Armed Forces, war invalids, sick soldiers, martyrs’ families, and families who contributed to the nation — those who fought, sacrificed, and devoted their blood, bones, and efforts for the cause of national liberation, independence, freedom, and unification.
Secretary Bui Thi Minh Hoai reported on the outstanding achievements of the capital in recent times, affirming that Hanoi will continue to thoroughly implement the guiding ideology of the Party and General Secretary To Lam on the “New Era – The Era of National Rising”, seriously absorbing and effectively carrying out the instructions of the General Secretary, as well as those of the Party, Government, and National Assembly leaders during their working sessions with the city.
In 2025 and the following years, Hanoi is determined to build and develop the capital worthy of being the national political-administrative center, the heart of the country, and a major center for economy, culture, education and training, science and technology, and international integration.
The capital will continue to effectively implement the two-tier local government model; build a clean and strong Party organization, authorities, and political system; and carry out anti-corruption, anti-wastefulness, and anti-negativity efforts effectively.
Secretary Bui Thi Minh Hoai expressed: “In every step forward in the development of the capital, the Party Committee, the authorities, and the people of Hanoi always wish to receive the encouragement, motivation, and sincere support from veteran revolutionary cadres, contributors to the revolution, and former city leaders of all periods.
The city leadership firmly believes that you will continue to uphold and promote the heroic revolutionary tradition, joining the Party Committee, authorities, armed forces, and people of Hanoi in unity and solidarity to contribute to the cause of building and developing the capital and the country into a prosperous and happy place, confidently advancing into the nation’s new era of development.”
Secretary Bui Thi Minh Hoai reiterated that in every step forward, the Party Committee, authorities, and people of Hanoi always hope to regularly receive the encouragement, motivation, and sincere support of veteran revolutionary cadres, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, contributors to the revolution, and former city leaders across periods.

In a warm and heartfelt atmosphere, 96-year-old Nguyen Huu Tai, a pre-August Revolution cadre, shared unforgettable memories from the resistance days 80 years ago.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Tai emotionally recounted: “When the uprising succeeded, power returned to the people. People were overjoyed and proud that from being slaves, they had now become masters of the country. Ba Dinh Square on that September 2 was filled with flags and flowers.
I will forever remember every word, every sentence of beloved Uncle Ho when he read the ‘Declaration of Independence’. The sea of people was utterly silent, listening intently without missing a single word”.
The meeting became even more reflective with the words of Professor, Doctor Phung Huu Phu, former Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, as he recalled the glorious 80-year revolutionary journey under the Party’s leadership.
He emphasized that in every revolutionary period, Hanoi has always been steadfast in taking the lead, accompanying the nation, and making worthy contributions to the struggle for liberation, defense, and development of the country.
Representing former city officials across periods, Professor, Doctor Phung Huu Phu expressed:
“In the 80-year historical journey, under the glorious banner of the Party, the Party Committee and people of Hanoi, with courage, intellect, and the great strength of unity in struggle, labor, and creativity, have written glorious pages of history with many golden milestones to be proud of.
In every step of development, in every success, in every project, and in every inch of Hanoi’s land over the past 80 years lies the effort of millions of its citizens.
These great and silent efforts must be respectfully acknowledged, remembered, and repaid. This reminds us to deepen the love for Hanoi, to be prouder of it and to live more responsibly toward it”.
The meeting took place in a warm and solemn atmosphere, demonstrating Hanoi’s profound gratitude to those who dedicated their youth, will, and courage to win independence and freedom for the nation, so that today the country may enjoy peace and development, its people may live in prosperity and happiness.
