At the 2026 World Travel Awards ceremony for Asia, Oceania, and the Indian Ocean, held in the Maldives, Hanoi was once again recognised in two categories: “Asia's Leading City Break Destination” and “Vietnam's Leading Cultural Destination”.
Notably, this marks the fifth consecutive year that Hanoi has been awarded the title of “Asia's Leading City Break Destination”, following wins in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
In the “Vietnam's Leading Cultural Destination” category, Hanoi has also won for the third consecutive year, following victories in 2024 and 2025.
These achievements continue to highlight Hanoi's allure, with its foundation of over 1,000 years of history, a rich system of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, and distinctive values in culture, cuisine, and lifestyle.
In recent years, the capital has gradually upgraded its infrastructure, improved service quality, and developed high-quality tourism products to meet the increasingly diverse needs of visitors.
Accordingly, Hanoi is steering its tourism development towards high quality, sustainability, intelligence, creativity, and eco-friendliness, with culture and heritage identified as crucial resources for creating competitive products.
The city focuses on diversifying products, enhancing cultural experiences, developing the nighttime economy, leveraging culinary values, and boosting digital technology applications for tourism promotion and visitor experience enhancement.
This direction aligns with Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW dated August 22, 2026, on developing Vietnam's tourism into a spearhead economic sector. The resolution emphasises the role of culture as a foundation, identity, and experience as competitive advantages, thereby providing a basis for localities to leverage their unique values in tourism development.
With its rich heritage system, distinctive cultural and culinary spaces, and an increasing number of experiential products, Hanoi is well-positioned to continue expanding its appeal to both domestic and international tourists.
Being consecutively honoured by the World Travel Awards also enhances the capital's position on the regional tourism map, while providing further impetus for the city to improve the quality of its destinations towards being green, smart, and sustainable.
