On April 14, the Department said that it recently had a working session with the company following reports that the map used in the Grab app did not fully show Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) as part of Vietnam’s territory.

At the meeting, Grab Vietnam admitted the wrongdoing and said it is cooperating with OpenStreetMap, a map data supplier, to create another map for its app.

The company said it has become aware of the wrongdoing’s seriousness and immediately taken measures for reviewing and updating the map to ensure the accuracy about Vietnam’ sovereignty.

The Information and Communications Department of Ho Chi Minh City also asked the firm to take remedy, carry out necessary actions to prevent similar wrongdoings in the future and comply with Vietnam's legal rules in its operations.
