General Secretary, President To Lam to attend high-level debate of UNGA 81, pay state visit to Canada
WVR/VNA - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam, along with a high-ranking delegation of the country, is going to attend the high-level general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81), engage in bilateral activities in the US, and pay a state visit to Canada at the invitation of Canadian Governor General Louise Arbour.

The trip will be made from September 20 to 25, according to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Spokesperson said that since Vietnam joined the United Nations in 1977, Vietnam–UN relations have been continuously consolidated and developed across various fields, from promoting sustainable development and maintaining peace to international security and responding to global challenges.
Throughout its participation in the world’s largest international organization, Vietnam has proactively put forward initiatives and made practical contributions to joint efforts, while undertaking important responsibilities in key UN bodies and forums and earning high appreciation from the international community. Vietnam is continuing to run for and undertake important roles in various UN mechanisms.
On the occasion of attending the United Nations General Assembly, General Secretary and President To Lam and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation will also conduct bilateral activities in the United States. The Vietnam–US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has maintained positive momentum, with political and diplomatic ties continuing to be strengthened through exchanges and contacts at all levels.
Economic, trade and investment relations have maintained growth. Security and defense cooperation has achieved positive results, particularly in addressing the consequences of war. Science and technology cooperation has expanded into high-tech fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, nuclear energy, and high-quality human resource training. The United States attaches importance to Vietnam’s role and coordination in addressing regional and global issues.
At the High-Level General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly, General Secretary and President To Lam will deliver an important speech and hold a number of meetings with leaders of countries, partners and international organizations, as well as meet with leaders of the US administration and Congress.
Vietnam–Canada Comprehensive Partnership relations have been maintained and developed in a stable and substantive manner. However, there remains considerable room for the two countries to further expand their ties in the coming period.
Canada is prioritizing the development of energy, critical minerals, artificial intelligence and high-tech agriculture, while Vietnam is accelerating industrial upgrading and developing the digital and green economies. Similarities in development needs, interests and orientations create favorable conditions for bringing bilateral relations to a new level.
During his State visit to Canada, General Secretary and President To Lam will meet with the Governor General of Canada, hold talks with the Prime Minister of Canada, meet with leaders of the Canadian Parliament, and undertake other important bilateral activities.
