General Secretary, President To Lam: Deepening Vietnam–Malaysia relations across all areas of cooperation

General Secretary, President To Lam highly appreciated and congratulated Ambassador Tan Yang Thai on successfully completing his mission in Vietnam; he wished Ambassador Tan Yang Thai continued success in his new position, contributing to Malaysia's diplomacy and the robust development of Vietnam-Malaysia relations.
General Secretary, President To Lam conveyed greetings to the King and Prime Minister of Malaysia; extended an invitation for the King and Prime Minister of Malaysia to visit Vietnam; and emphasised Malaysia's important position in Vietnam's foreign policy.
He also affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam always value cooperation with Malaysia; expressed the hopr to continuously nurture and deepen the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, with a more extensive scope both bilaterally and multilaterally.
Reviewing some significant achievements in the bilateral relations during Ambassador Tan Yang Thai's term in Vietnam, General Secretary and President To Lam noted that the relationship between the two countries is increasingly dynamic; political cooperation is trustworthy and close, with regular high-level visits and exchanges at all levels through Party, State, Government, and National Assembly channels; bilateral cooperation mechanisms have been effectively utilized, and people-to-people exchanges are flourishing.
Economic cooperation has developed strongly, with trade turnover in the first six months of 2026 reaching 10.8 billion USD, a 40% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Malaysia continues to be the third-largest investor in ASEAN and ranks 10th among 154 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. The two countries share many similarities in development, such as the digital economy, green economy, energy connectivity, electricity, and both are maritime nations.
General Secretary and President To Lam suggested that in the future, the two countries should continue to consolidate political trust, enhance delegation exchanges, high-level contacts, and other levels; effectively implement high-level agreements; strengthen defense, security, and maritime cooperation; and encourage further facilitation of economic, trade, and investment cooperation towards balance, promoting fields such as the digital economy, green economy, science and technology, and innovation...
For his part, Ambassador Tan Yang Thai expressed gratitude to General Secretary and President To Lam for the meeting and was pleased to witness Vietnam's strong development in recent years; he affirmed that he would always cherish the beautiful memories of Vietnam and its people; and hoped that the relationship between the two countries would continue to grow stronger in the future.
Ambassador Tan Yang Thai expressed confidence that Vietnam and Malaysia would play a significant role in promoting ASEAN unity and development; resolving disputes through peaceful means and international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982), amidst the current complex global and regional situation. On this occasion, Ambassador Tan Yang Thai extended congratulations on Vietnam's National Day to General Secretary and President To Lam.
Agreeing with General Secretary and President To Lam's assessments of the bilateral relations, Ambassador Tan Yang Thai affirmed that Malaysia always values cooperation with Vietnam and wishes to further strengthen the relationship, especially in areas such as the digital economy, green economy, and renewable energy. Ambassador Tan Yang Thai conveyed the King of Malaysia's invitation for General Secretary and President To Lam to visit Malaysia soon.
Ambassador Tan Yang Thai affirmed that with his work experience and special affection for Vietnam, he will continue to strive to foster the development of the bilateral relationship.
