The ceremony, held by the Embassy of Vietnam in Brunei, was also participated by Ambassadors and representatives from the diplomatic corps, partners and friends, businesses and overseas Vietnamese in Brunei.
To deliver the opening remarks at the event, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Brunei Tran Van Khoa recalled the date September 2, 1945 when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence in Ba Dinh square of our capital Ha Noi, declaring the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam), to officially put the name of Vietnam on the world map and opens a new era of independence and freedom for colonized peoples all over the world.

“With the spirit of “Nothing is more precious than Independence and Freedom” affirmed by President Ho Chi Minh, Vietnamese people have protected and rebuilt Viet Nam from ashes after years of fierce fights for the national independence. Viet Nam today has gained increasing role in the international arena”, stated Ambassador Khoa.
He also noted that after over 35 years of Doi Moi (also known as Renovation period), Viet Nam has risen to become a developing country with GDP per capita reached 3,521 USD with an average growth of 6.8% in the pre-pandemic period.

Despite the negative impacts of the Covid-19, Viet Nam is still among countries in the region which recorded growth rate. According to the International Monetary Fund, in 2020, Viet Nam became the fourth largest economy in Southeast Asia, after Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.
Viet Nam has always been persistent, steadfast and resolute in upholding the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development; with diversification and multi-lateralization in foreign relations; proactively and actively integrate into the world; a friend, a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community, the diplomat emphsized, the diplomat added.

As of 2021, Viet Nam has official diplomatic relations with 189 out of 193 countries; establishing strategic and comprehensive partnerships with 30 countries on all continents, including all 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council. Viet Nam has participated in various multilateral FTAs across the region, maintaining political stability, creating a favorable business environment, balancing economic growth and achieving sustainable development goals have helped Viet Nam win the trust of international friends, making Viet Nam an attractive destination in Southeast Asia, both for investors and international visitors.
According to Ambassador Tran Van Khoa, Viet Nam and Brunei Darussalam established diplomatic relations thirty years ago based on close neighborhood and friendship cooperation. Since then, the bilateral relations witnessed steady growth and fruitful cooperation, evidenced by the strengthening of bilateral relations to Comprehensive Partnership in 2019, marking the new level of stronger ties for Viet Nam and Brunei Darussalam.

He also noted that the past few years were challenging for the whole world to fight against the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. But, the new normal has returned, many parts of the world are bustling again, and recovery has been recorded at a speedy pace. These are very positive signs for the economic outlooks in the years to come.
On the occasion, the Ambassador expressed his highest appreciation to the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, ministries and agencies for the close collaboration and support extended to the Embassy of Viet Nam in the past years.

He informed the participants of a series of events to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Brunei, particularly the Viet Nam - Brunei Darussalam Trade, Culture, Food and Arts Fair which opens from September 7-11, the publication of a children’s book on Vietnamese cultural story - telling the origins of Vietnamese rice cakes.
In the warm and friendly atmosphere of the celebration, guests and paticipants had the chance to enjoy a special music programme performed by singers and dancers coming from Vietnam.
