Dang Hoang Giang appointed to become new Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs

TGVN. Dang Hoang Giang, Assistant to Politburo Member, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, was appointed by Prime Minister as Deputy Foreign Minister.

In the afternoon of March 12, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had held a ceremony during which Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh handed over Prime Minister's decision on appointing Dang Hoang Giang as new Deputy Foreign Minister.

According to the Decision No. 345/QD-TTg effective on March 12, Prime Minister had appointed Mr. Dang Hoang Giang, Assistant to Politburo Member, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh since December 2019, Chief of the Ministry Office as the new Deputy Foreign Minister.

Presented at the meeting were Member of Party Central Committee, Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son; Member of Party Central Committee, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung; Deputy Foreign Ministers: Dang Minh Khoi, Nguyen Quoc Dung, To Anh Dung and Nguyen Minh Vu; Deputy Prime Minister's assistants and director-generals of Ministry's departments.

Speaking at the ceremony, Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh congratulated the new Deputy Foreign Minister, stressed that the decision expressed the trust of Party, Government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs' leaders in Mr. Giang.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh, becoming one of the youngest Deputy Foreign Minister was a landmark and turning point in Mr. Giang's career, yet it also required him to make extra efforts and bear heavier responsiblities in his new mission.

With regards to the transitional period between generations of Leaders of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh expressed his belief that the new Deputy Foreign Minister would, together with the collective leadership of Party Committee's personnel Board and Ministry's leaders, would complete the missions given by the Party and the Government.

Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang expressed his gratitude to Party, Government and Ministry's Leaders in assigning him to the new position, as well as the support and trust of the collective Ministry's Leaders and officials. He promised to try his best in completing the missions given by the Party and Government, therefore contributing to the overall success of the country's foreign affairs.

Member of the personnel Board of Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Party Committee, Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang was born in 1977 in Bac Ninh province. He has worked in bilateral diplomacy, multilateral diplomacy, foreign policy and international economic integration.

He has a wife and two children.

Academic background

Bachelor’s degree in International Relations at the Institute for International Relations (now the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam).

Master’s degree in International Relations at the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam.

Foreign Language: English, French.

Diplomatic career

From 2000 – 2005, he worked at the Law and International Treaties Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

From 2005 – 2007, he was assigned to be the attaché at the Permanent Mission of Viet Nam to the United Nations (in the United States).

From 2007 – 2010, he was First Secretary of Permanent Mission of Viet Nam to the United Nations (in the United States), Viet Nam’s Senior Political Coordinator at the United Nations Security Council.

In 2010, he worked at the International Organizations Department before appointed as the Assistant to the Director-General of the International Organizations Department (since August 2010), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then Assistant to the Director-General, Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Secretary of the Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister, then Secretary of the Foreign Minister (November 2010).

On November 2012, he was assigned to be Deputy Director-General, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ministry; Secretary of the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

On March 2015, he was appointed to be Director-General, Office of the Ministry, Secretary of the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister; Member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Party Committee;

On November 2016, he held the position of Director-General, Ministry’s Chief of Staff; Standing Member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Party Committee; Chairman of the Inspection Commission of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On November 2019, he was assigned by Prime Minister to serve as Assistant of Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, while concurrently served as the Ministry’s Chief of Staff; he was also Standing Member of Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Party Committee; Chairman of the Inspection Commission of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Since March 2021, he was appointed Deputy Foreign Minister and simultaneously served as Member of the personnel Board, Standing Member of the Ministry’s Party Committee and Chairman of the Inspection Commission of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Honors

Third-class Labour Medal in 2018, Prime Minister’s Diploma (2010, 2018).
