At the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai affirmed the country’s recognition of the importance of the strategic comprehensive partnership that exists between China, the Vietnamese Party, State, and people, therefore expressing elation at the promotion of mutually beneficial ties between Vietnamese localities and Chongqing.

Ambassador Mai went on to voice hope that the two sides will move to intensify delegation exchanges and put forward mutually beneficial engagements in terms of economy-trade, transport connectivity, logistics, and tourism.

He therefore called upon municipal authorities to facilitate the activities of Vietnamese farm produce exporters, along with the operation of the Vietnamese trade promotion office based in Chongqing.

The preservation of the local memorial house dedicated to late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh, coupled with favourable conditions created for Vietnamese citizens in the Chinese city, also featured as part of the local diplomat’s request.

In response, Deputy Mayor Li affirmed that Chongqing greatly appreciates its friendship with localities from the nation and holds a desire to boost collaboration, particularly with those in which it has established twin relations with such as Ho Chi Minh City, along with Cao Bang and Quang Ninh provinces.

Deputy Mayor Li outlined that trade between Chongqing and Vietnamese localities hit US$4.7 billion during the first eight months of the year, representing an annual rise of 87.7%. In addition, the value of goods from the country currently accounts for 18% of Chongqing’s total import turnover for this year.
