
Ceremony marking 75 years of diplomatic ties: Continuing to write new chapters in the history of Vietnam-Russia relations

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, the Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko, along with representatives from various Vietnamese ministries, branches and agencies, diplomatic corps and the Russian community in Vietnam.
In his speech at the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister stated that the Soviet Union was one of the first countries in the world to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam. Over the past 75 years, the two countries have gone through many ups and downs, but with a foreign policy rooted in genuine friendship, mutual respect, understanding and support, Vietnam and Russia have remained loyal and steadfast friends, standing shoulder to shoulder through multiple trials and challenges.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Son, the Party, State, and people of Vietnam will never forget the profound and sincere support extended by the people of the Soviet Union and Russia in the struggle for the liberation of the South, the reunification of the country, as well as in the endeavors of national safeguarding, building and development.
Landmark projects built with assistance of the Soviet Union and Russia from many decades ago, such as the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant and the Thang Long Bridge, remain significant contributions to Vietnam's development and stand as symbols of the friendship between the two nations. Especially, for generations of Vietnamese students who studied in the Soviet Union and Russia, the country holds a special place in their hearts, and those years remain a cherished chapter in their lives, he said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Son highlighted the bright spots in the relationship between the two countries in the fields of politics, diplomacy and economics - trade. As the bilateral relations build upon the legacy nurtured over 75 years by generations of leaders and peoples from both countries, the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia continue to yield meaningful results.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted the political relations are marked by deep trust and are strengthened through regular exchanges and interactions at all levels, particularly at the highest level, across the Party, State, Government, National Assembly channels, and between peoples. Recently, engagements have been both consistent and vibrant, reflecting the commitment of both nations’ leaders and peoples to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership, as reaffirmed in the Joint Statement on Deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during President Putin’s visit to Vietnam in June 2024.

These achievements not only honour the two countries' proud shared history, but also lay a solid foundation for them to confidently advance into a new era, ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges of the times, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
The agreements reached through these high-level visits and interactions not only provide strategic direction for the future development of Vietnam-Russia relations but also serve as a roadmap for advancing substantive and comprehensive cooperation.
On the international stage, Vietnam and Russia continue to uphold the long-standing tradition of mutual understanding and support. Both countries have worked closely in multilateral forums, including the United Nations, APEC, ASEM, and ARF, as well as within the ASEAN-Russia cooperation framework.

Deputy Prime Minister Son expressed confidence that with the solidarity, strong bond, and close cooperation built over many generations, the year 2025 will be a significant milestone in the new, increasingly prosperous development phase between the two brotherly nations.
Over the past 75 years, the Vietnam-Russia friendship has proven its resilience and is continuing to grow stronger. "Vietmam and Russia will continue writing new chapters in this exemplary traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation, serving the interests and aspirations of both nations, and contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in our region and beyond", the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister shared emotionally.

Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko affirmed that over the past three-quarters of a century, the Vietnam-Russia relationship has undergone a long and glorious journey.
The people of the two countries have always stood side by side in the most difficult times, with their sincere friendship and mutual affection forming a strong foundation for the close cooperation between Vietnam and Russia.
"We do not forget the shared history of the two nations, including the selfless assistance provided to the heroic Vietnamese people during the years they fought for freedom and independence, and in the subsequent period of peacebuilding," emphasized Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko.

According to the Ambassador, Vietnam and Russia are strengthening cooperation in all areas, meeting the aspirations of the people of both countries, and contributing to maintaining peace, security, and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and the world.
