Highly appreciating the achievements of the 14th National Party Congress and the 16th National Assembly election, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn extended congratulations to Vietnam's leaders.

The ASEAN Secretary-General warmly congratulated General Secretary, President To Lam, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, and Politburo Member, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung on being entrusted with important responsibilities in the Party, State, and Government of Vietnam.

He also recalled the profound impression of General Secretary To Lam's historic visit to the ASEAN Secretariat on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to ASEAN.

Praising the strategic directions set out at the 14th National Party Congress, the ASEAN Secretary-General affirmed that Vietnam's goal to become a developed, modern, high-income country by 2045 aligns with the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.

He expressed confidence that, with its remarkable economic achievements in recent times and consistent foreign policy, Vietnam will continue to contribute positively and effectively to the regional integration process, helping to build and strengthen the ASEAN Community.

Emphasizing the crucial role of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR), the Secretary-General commended Vietnam's proactive participation and positive contributions, especially in coordinating ASEAN's relations with New Zealand and the UK, as well as chairing the ASEAN Integration Initiative (IAI) Task Force.

He affirmed that the ASEAN Secretariat is ready to closely coordinate and support Vietnam in regional cooperation activities.

For her part, Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong conveyed the gratitude of Vietnam's leaders to Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn for his congratulatory letter on the success of the 14th National Congress of the Party and the 16th National Assembly election.

The Ambassador emphasized that the 14th Party Congress continues to affirm Vietnam's independent, self-reliant, multilateralized, and diversified foreign policy, valuing ASEAN's role, while demonstrating Vietnam's strong commitment to actively contributing to strengthening solidarity, unity, promoting ASEAN's central role, and enhancing its position.

Furthermore, the Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam aims to promote substantive and practical ASEAN cooperation outcomes, meeting the development needs of member countries and the interests of the people.

Both sides also discussed directions to promote substantive cooperation within ASEAN and with partners, focusing on innovating growth models based on science, technology, and innovation, sustainable development, green transition, ensuring energy security, food security, and regional infrastructure development.

On this occasion, the Ambassador also informed about the plan to organize the ASEAN Future Forum 2026, and proposed that the Secretary-General continue to support and actively participate in the high-level forum annually hosted by Vietnam to discuss ASEAN's future development directions.
