ASEAN Family Day 2022 in Vietnam - message of a united, dynamic and resilient ASEAN
On the autumn morning of August 13, 2022, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ASEAN Women's Circle of Hanoi (AWCH) jointly organized the ASEAN Family Day 2022. The event aims to honor ASEAN's community values, enhance understanding, friendship and promote ASEAN's solidarity, and at the same time affirm the role of the AWCH.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Ambassadors, Heads of Missions, Embassy staff, Delegations of all ASEAN countries and ASEAN Dialogue Partners in Hanoi, AWCH team members, Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials and their families attended the event.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc emphasized that ASEAN's achievements after more than half a century of establishment had made it an important organization for peace, stability and security in the region, a vibrant and highly integrated economy, an inclusive, people-oriented and people-centered community, a reliable partner for countries and organizations in the region and in the world.
The ASEAN Family Day 2022 with activities resumed in person after two difficult years of COVID-19, attracted the participation of a large number of delegates and guests, demonstrating joint efforts to defeat the COVID-19 epidemic as well as strong support and commitment to ASEAN.
As in his remark, Cambodia’s Ambassador to Vietnam Chay Navuth said “It seems that the spirit of ASEAN Family Day 2022 has made ASEAN's 55th birthday even more meaningful”. This is an important forum to connect colleagues, friends, family in the ASEAN Community and partners in Hanoi, contributing to strengthening friendship and cooperation, enhancing public awareness of ASEAN’s image and identity.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the exchange program, Madam Vu Thi Bich Ngoc, Spouse of the Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Honorary Chairwoman of AWCH affirmed, ASEAN Family Day has become an expected activity every August for many years. It becomes an opportunity for families, friends from ASEAN countries and partners to meet and cultivate friendship, solidarity and cooperation.
Ms. Vu Thi Bich Ngoc also expressed her joy at the growth and development of AWCH in the past 7 years with many activities. It has built a network with 19 ASEAN partners and 6 outstanding women’s organizations in Vietnam.
Through many diverse activities, its work has contributed significantly to raising public awareness of ASEAN Community and promoting ASEAN identity, while preserving the traditional values of member states. In particular, the funds raised from international food festivals as well as its charity activities have brought help to those who are most in need, including disadvantaged women and children, while promoting local products, trade, investment and tourism.

After the opening ceremony, a large number of delegates participated in the Friendship Cycling activity from the Headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1 Ton That Dam) to the Working House of the Ministry (2 Le Quang Dao).
This journey of connection is a clear demonstration of friendship, solidarity, determination and steadfastness to overcome all challenges together, moving ASEAN forward together.
The image of diplomats with their families and colleagues in the ASEAN Community in ASEAN Family Day 2022 costumes, happily cycling together on the streets of Hanoi, is certainly a beautiful image in the memories of the people of Hanoi, and at the same time conveying the message of a united, dynamic and resilient ASEAN.
The ASEAN countries’ exciting traditional exchange activities in culture, sports, folk games and vibrant cuisine were organized immediately afterwards at the destination of the friendship cycling journey. They are extremely vibrant, meaningful and attract the participation of a large number of delegates and guests.
