The conference was inaugurated by the opening remarks by Professor Sonu Trivedi, Honorary Director of the Centre. She talked about the significance of young scholar and how they can play an important role in development of academia. She also highlighted on the pressing need for educational collaborations between the Universities and other institutions of learning in India and Vietnam for fostering a deeper people to people ties. The young and energetic minds from both India and Vietnam presented their ideas on multi-faceted relations between the two countries.
On this occasion, Dr. Ash Narain Roy, Chief Patron, Centre for Vietnam Studies, New Delhi highlighted on the importance of research and role of young scholars in this field. He gave tips to the young scholars on how to conduct a research. Craziness and hard work are the two important qualities that are required to be a good researcher. A researcher should focus on quality over quantity. He remarked that a good idea comes quickly but a good publications takes time. Accuracy is very important in every research. The focus of a research should be to generate questions and focus on the importance of the unimportant.

Prof. Darvesh Gopal, Professor of Political Science, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi chaired the inaugural session. He talked about the deep cultural and historical relations shared by both the countries and the love that people of India have for the people of Vietnam. There is great opportunity for both the countries to grow through mutual cooperation in different fields. The economic and trade exchange between both counties is very low. India’s Act East policy gives the platform to strengthen defense, economic and cultural ties between both the countries. In the next decade, India should work with Vietnam and help in making it grow as a major world economy. Both countries should work on increasing people to people ties and students from Vietnam should be encouraged to visit and study in Indian Universities.
H.E. Nguyen Le Thanh, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam delivered the inaugural address. She talked about the historical relation between India and Vietnam. The relationship shared by the kingdoms of Kalinga and Champa during ancient times. This year India and Vietnam completed 46 years of its diplomatic relations. She appreciated the young scholars and the how they can contribute to bilateral relationship. She also spoke about the bilateral relation between both the countries and suggested the ways to strengthen the relations between both the countries.
The Conference focused on ideological convergences between India and Vietnam; social, cultural and economic dynamics of India-Vietnam relations; strategic and security dimensions between the two nations. A large number of Young Research Scholars, representing different Universities and Think tanks, presented papers based on the themes of the Conference.
The purpose of the Young Scholars Conference was to provide a platform for the budding research scholars to present their thoughts and knowledge on different facets of the Indo-Vietnam relations, and take away certain significant points to further understand the age old ties between the two nations.
